We strive to put the very best into everything we do, and our goal is to hire someone who also has the drive to work hard and produce the best work they can in a long term position on a family farm. We strive to have a family environment but also know that we have long work days as farmers. We are located about 45 minutes outside of Kansas City. K-12 school district, many churches, and about 15-25 minutes from major box stores. Position Summary: The Cattle Manager is a pivotal role for an individual who thrives on achieving precision in their work. This role demands a determined professional with a meticulous nature, driven by detail to ensure that every aspect of the farm is well maintained. The cattle manager is responsible for our 600 head cow-calf herd. The ideal candidate will have proficient experience in all aspects of cattle health. In conjunction with cattle care duties, they will also be expected to complete general farm tasks. These tasks include but would not be limited to: baling hay, chopping silage, mowing/harrowing pastures, equipment/fence repair and general farm upkeep. Responsibilities: - Manage day to day care of all cattle on the farm: Cow-Calf, Backgrounding bulls and Finishing herds - Maintain the maintenance of equipment and facilities, ensuring they are in good working condition - Hay Season: mowing, raking and baling hay - Daily check in’s on what has been completed during the day - Must be someone who is ok to work alone majority of the time, but also as a team - Upkeep of our online record keeping system 701x Qualifications - 2 years minimum cattle experience specifically including cow-calf herds, doctoring, calving, and general maintenance of animal wellbeing -Ability to operate heavy farm equipment proficiently (tractors, skid steer, feed wagons, balers etc) -Proficient in heavy lifting and the use of hand tools used to maintain, and repair equipment on farm -Ability to build fence, dig head-deep hole, lift 100 pounds over head, and work all day in the sun and snow - Ability to work effectively with minimal oversight Amenities: -3 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath house with 2 car attached garage on site for farm hand and family included with the salary -Horse barn available -Farm Truck A word from the farmer’s wife: We are a conservative catholic family farm. While we are certainly not perfect, we do our very best to hold ourselves to a high standard. We are looking for a kind, respectful worker who will put as much care and consideration into our farm as we do and wants to put down roots and stay with us for at least 5+ years. You must be trustworthy, dependable, take direction well, and be able to go above and beyond even when no one is asking or looking because we do the same in our work. Since most of your work is done solo, communication is key on this farm, which is why we ask for daily check ins. We enjoy having family around, and love to have kids help out on the farm as long as the situation is safe and work is being completed correctly. We understand that farmer’s hours can be long and grueling in certain seasons, and some seasons are not that way, but we ask that when the work needs to get done, that it gets done, and done well. Though this position is pretty solitary during the week, you will find that we will be there along side you when we are not working our other jobs, however we are always just a call away.
