It is one of the few remaining areas in the state where a major watershed remains intact and close to pristine. The ranch is managed for optimal ecological health and resiliency, favoring wildlife, and forest treatments to optimize forest health and fire resistance- at present we do not run livestock. The owners have a strong conservation ethic, and the ranch is mostly under easement. The ranches span from ponderosa/oak forests (at 8,100 feet), through thousands of acres of aspen, to dark timber in the high country (topping out at over 12,700 feet). The ranch holds abundant water in springs, ponds, streams, and the Navajo River. In addition, the ranch provides essential habitat for bighorn sheep, elk, deer, turkey, cutthroat trout, bear, and mountain lions. General Duties: The Ranch Foreman will work closely with the Catspaw Ranch Operations Manager to develop goals for the upcoming year at the ranch and will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the efforts and work schedule of seasonal employees to accomplish those goals and objectives. Individual must be highly organized and detail oriented. Individual needs basic ranching skills, as well as familiarity with plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, carpentry, automotive and heavy equipment maintenance, operating heavy equipment, welding, chainsaw use and maintenance. Must have advanced driving/towing skills and be highly safety oriented. Firefighting skills, familiarity with horses and hunting a plus but not essential. Housing and full benefits included. Salary dependent on level of experience. Hands on duties will include the following: Responsibilities of the Foreman Position: 1. Plan and direct daily outdoor operations on Catspaw Ranch, including River House property in the following roles: • Facility, Infrastructure, and Equipment Maintenance • Water Right Usage and Irrigation • Pasture and Fencing Maintenance • Fire prevention 2. Train, manage, and help recruit seasonal ranch staff. •Seasonal ranch hand(s) 3. Oversee, schedule, record, and/or perform maintenance of various ranch vehicles, equipment and twenty buildings. 4. Road maintenance: Plowing, grading etc. 5. Oversee and monitor Water Right usage and Irrigation: • Control and record water usage of 9 irrigation systems on record sheets and maintain Excel spreadsheet for annual summary • Coordinate ditch maintenance as needed 6. Oversee Pasture, Meadow, and Rangeland Management on the ranch: • Coordinate organic weed management as part of daily operations • Plan and/or pasture improvements where appropriate • Help with caretaking of ranch horses, owners dogs, etc • Assisting with wildlife and rewilding efforts • Assisting with fall hunts 7. Evaluate and responsibly procure necessary ranch supplies, tools, equipment, etc. 8. Plan, budget, and execute special projects as assigned by Ranch Operations Manager 9. Manage/Patrol Hunt Patrol 10.
