Description:
Montana State University’s Red Bluff Research Ranch in Norris, MT is looking for summer help. Red Bluff is a 13,000-acre research and teaching ranch operated by the Department of Animal and Range Sciences at Montana State University. We run 200 beef cows and 500 ewes that graze on range for most of the year. The cows calve on range in May, and we move cattle horseback. The ranch also has a purebred component and breeds cattle to AI. This is a diverse position that will cover the activities of a commercial ranch but will also be involved in assisting with livestock and range research projects as needed.



Duties:

• Assist with livestock work activities including calving, branding, breeding, and moving pastures

• Maintenance and construction of barbed wire fence, electric fence, corrals, and facilities

• Assist with breeding cattle

• Assist with range monitoring and inventory

• Wheel line irrigation

• Assist with facilitating research projects

• Assist with other areas of ranch as needed



Required Qualifications

• Strong work ethic

• Ability to work outside in inclement weather

• Ability to hold, lift, and maneuver heavy objects

• Humble attitude and a desire to learn



Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with livestock

• General construction knowledge and skill in building and maintaining fence

• Ability to ride a horse

• Ability to operate tractors and other equipment a plus

• Ability to weld a plus
