About Giving Tree Acres

Giving Tree Acres is a new, non-profit farm producing food for low-income neighbors in DFW. We are committed to practicing regenerative agriculture to produce seasonal fruits and vegetables along with grass-fed and pasture-raised meats and eggs.



Spring 2024 marks the beginning of our farm’s operation. This role has the unique opportunity to lead a farm from inception, building the infrastructure and team from the ground up. The Farm Manager will be responsible for hiring and managing the farm staff, allowing this Leader the autonomy to shape their team. We anticipate hiring 3-4 additional employees in 2024 to support the operation. All of these will report to the Farm Manager.



Farm Manager Job Description

We seek a skilled and experienced Farm Manager to lead our regenerative agriculture operations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for and understanding of regenerative practices, a proven track record managing farm operations, and strong leadership skills. The Farm Manager will oversee all aspects of the farm’s daily operations, manage a team of dedicated farm employees, and ensure the successful implementation of regenerative farming practices.



Key Responsibilities:

•Identify, budget, and execute all infrastructure projects required to get the farm up and running.

•Plan, organize, and execute daily farm activities to ensure the production of high-quality fruits, vegetables, and pasture-raised meats and eggs.

•Develop and maintain a comprehensive farm plan, including crop rotation, grazing management, and regenerative practices.

•Develop, monitor, and manage farm budgets, expenses, and resources to ensure efficient operations.

•Lead and manage a team of farm employees, providing guidance, training, and support.

•Facilitate weekly team meetings to outline plans and goals for the week ahead.

•Provide weekly progress updates to the President.

•Ensure adherence to regenerative farming practices.

•Own relationships and interactions with processing vendors and manage the delivery/pickup of inventory to the processing facility.

•Track farm production levels and develop strategies to increase yield year-over-year.

•Collaborate with the President to determine a plan for farm offtake. 50% of the product will be donated to community non-profit partners, and the remaining 50% will be sold via farmer’s market or online sales.

•Recruit and interview for all open farm positions. Final candidate selection is subject to the President’s approval.

•Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and certifications.

•Facilitate the vetting and purchase of all farm animals.

•Oversee all aspects of the daily care, feeding, and life support system maintenance of a diverse collection of animals.

•Assist with crop production, harvest, post-harvest duties and distribution.

•Assist in supervising volunteers to ensure work is completed effectively, safely, and enjoyably.

•Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while following established procedures and policies.

•Facilitate farm tours and other educational events as requested.

•Contribute content to farm social media channels.

•Perform other duties as assigned.





Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Animal Science, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or related field OR equivalent work experience.

•Minimum five years experience working on a farm and ranch.

•Minimum three years experience leading people.

•Must live within 30 minutes of the Farm.



Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

•Proven experience in farm management with a focus on regenerative agriculture.

•Strong leadership, verbal, and written communication skills.

•Ability to effectively communicate tasks and expectations and motivate others.

•In-depth knowledge of regenerative farming practices and sustainable agriculture.

•Experience in managing a diverse range of crops and livestock.

•Ability to increase farm production year-over-year.

•Familiarity with organic and sustainable certifications and compliance.

•Experience with social media.

•Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

•Knowledge of essential farm and food safety protocols.

•Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor as needed.

•Ability to be on call after hours and work on weekends, as required. As the farm team grows, this expectation is anticipated to decrease as the workload is shared among more team members.
