Description:
MT Ruby 2012 red roan mare, 15.2 hands, 1250 lbs.

Ruby was bred by the Holland Ranch in Dillon, MT where they have been raising quality ranch quarter horses for generations. I purchased her as an untouched 3-year-old and she has been with me ever since. I started her and have exposed her to a wide variety of experiences. I am a professional trainer and have too many younger horses coming up, so it is time for Ruby to find a new home.

Ruby has had a lot of professional training and is very versatile. She has excellent ground manners, stands tied for hours, great for the farrier, trailers, and bathes. Under saddle Ruby is light and soft to rein, legs, and seat. She can walk, trot, canter on a loose rein or with collection. She can yield hindquarters, turn on her haunches, side-pass, leg yield, haunches in, correct leads, and a nice hard stop. I have roped the hot heels and drug logs off her but haven’t roped any live cattle on her yet. She is calm around cattle and cowy enough to cut and track them when asked. She has hundreds of miles out in the hills just trail riding and moving cattle. She isn’t spooky, steps right out in front and travels. Crosses standing and flowing water, logs, and travels smoothly up and down steep terrain. She has a good motor to her and wants to go somewhere without being hot or prancing. I have used her to pony colts on the trail as well as pack stock. Ruby also has some experience packing in the mountains, so she follows a string well, highlines, and hobbles.

Ruby is a very flashy mover and would excel in ranch versatility, western dressage, or working equitation. However, I think she would be happiest doing a true ranch job. She enjoys being outside doing a job over arena work. She can get hot when there is a lot of pressure put on her to perform overly detailed maneuvers, hence my opinion that she would be best suited for ranch work. Ruby’s only downfall is that if she is left off for long periods of time, she is sometimes a little cold backed. As long as you move her out on the ground before that first ride, I have had no trouble with her under saddle. Her buck isn’t huge, but it is there if you don’t warm her up after a long time off.

Ruby has had a foal in 2021 and she gave him her great bone and size. Her colt is now 2 years old and already 15 hands! She was an excellent mother, foaling with no problems and attentive to her foal. She would make an excellent broodmare, that is also very handy to ride. Whether you’re seeking your next working mount or a fantastic broodmare, Ruby is a very talented mare who is ready to take you there. Due to her nature, I am recommending a confident intermediate and above level rider. More pictures upon request.
