At least 50% of the daily responsibilities will entail chores, planning, decision-making and problem-solving associated with the daily care and production from our various livestock enterprises at the home farm in Boulder with an emphasis on our grass-based, raw dairy operation. Employees in this role can generally expect to work 5 consecutive days per week averaging 50 hours during the growing season and 40 hours per week in the dormant season. Days off will not necessarily conform to typical work week norms. Work hours are typically spread out through the available daylight hours with shared chores regularly beginning at dawn and one person closing down the farm at dusk. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: ● Daily responsibility for the effective execution of the grass dairy (once-a-day milking with calves weaned at 5 mos.), beef and lamb finishing program including using low stress animal stockmanship and animal husbandry. ● Health assessment and veterinary care. ● Assessing animal performance variables. ● Forage assessment and rotational grazing planning and execution. ● Moving Mobile fencing for Holistic planned grazing. ● Record keeping ● Animal water and supplement care. ● Milking, cleaning, food safety, raw milk testing. ● Maintenance of tools and equipment. ● Cheese, yogurt and general dairy product production could also be involved. Required Skills/Traits: ● Working knowledge of the proper use, care and basic maintenance of tools and equipment. ● Low stress animal stockmanship. ● Production mindset Preferred Experience: ● Raw dairy ● Equipment repair, fence building, mechanical expertise, trailering, etc. In addition to the primary specialist role, each employee will be expected to notice and be focused on doing whatever the farm needs from them in order for the farm to be successful. There will be work with or in support of the ducks and chickens, work with or in support of the pigs, work in and in support of the gardens and orchards, general maintenance work, work supporting other team members as needed, work creating farm products and making sure the farm store is well tended along with work moving equipment/ animals between the farm and ranch or potentially picking up new animals, etc. This work will be divided as makes sense around the employees, based on the needs of the farm and the aptitudes of the different staff members.
