If you are looking for a safe, gentle horse that you can use for checking cows, riding on trails, and arena work, then take a look at Smith. He is a cute GRADE 8 year old bay gelding, 15.1 hh with a pretty head and quiet disposition. Smith was owned for most of his life by an 81 year old man, who learned how to ride on him. When we bought him he had been turned out for a couple years as his owner got to where he could no longer ride. We have had him for nearly 6 months, and he is ready to go to a new family to enjoy him. Smith is safe, gentle and pretty much the same horse every time you ride him. He has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off, and is suitable for an advanced beginner or better. He would be a great project for an experienced youth to take to the next level. Smith has been ridden English and Western, has been ridden on trails, and used to push cattle between pastures. He rides quietly on a loose rein, never going any faster than you ask him to, and is responsive to his rider’s cues without needing spurs. Smith is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water, and will go up, over or through anything you point him at. He can be ridden by himself or with other horses, will happily lead or follow, and doesn’t mind being ridden in a large group. Smith has excellent ground manners, is easy to catch, load, haul and shoe, and gets along great with other horses. He recently had coggins done and teeth floated, and has no soundness issues.
