If you are looking for a well broke, safe horse that won’t break the bank, then check out Monterrey. He is such a cute, sweet horse with a wonderful personality, 13 years old and very gentle. Monterrey is 14.2hh with a good sized foot and plenty of chrome. He originally came off of a ranch in Monterrey Mexico, when he was much younger. The last several years he has been used on a ranch in the hill country, packing visitors and kids around the ranch safely. Monterrey is an excellent trail horse who will go anywhere you point him without hesitation. I completely trust him around both of my boys, who are 2 and 5. They love to lead him around, brush him, and ride him. When you put a little one on his back he knows the difference and takes very good care of them. Monterrey is easy to catch, load, haul, and shoe, has excellent ground manners, and gets along with every horse I put in with him. He does have some arthritis in his hind end from years of working hard on the ranch, so a home where tons of loping or extensive hill work is required is probably not ideal for him. But he is perfectly able to ride on trails or around the ranch, even every day if you want, without a problem. Monterrey is gentle and stays that way, even if not ridden regularly. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. He has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it.
