This is a full-time, year round position. Individual must be skilled with all aspects of cow-calf operation including but not limited to - cattle handling, identifying and treating sick, injured or stressed animals; gathering cattle, sorting pairs, doctoring when needed, vaccinating, processing and shipping calf crop and cull cattle, branding, pregnancy testing and calving. While there is a lot of riding involved...this is not a full-time cowboy/riding position. You will be a key member of our team and also responsible for such tasks as: • Monitoring and managing proper pasture rotations, grazing, etc. Will be responsible for moving cattle from one pasture/range to another. Cattle work is done using both horses and 4-wheelers, whichever is the most efficient for the job. • Feeding hay in the winter and salt/mineral supplements as needed. • Will be responsible for repairing pasture and range fences, corrals and equipment. • Monitor, maintain and repair wells and stock water lines as needed. • Operate ranch machinery including backhoe, tractor, bale processor, etc. The position includes record-keeping. All employees are responsible for maintaining accurate herd health and inventory records for our participation in such programs as Verified Natural and GAP 4. This includes current inventory of cows, calves and bulls, seasonal bull turnout and calving dates, death loss, treated/sick cattle, hay feeding records, etc. Reports are submitted weekly to management. Qualifications A minimum of 5 years cow-calf experience. Knowledge of and compliance with the record keeping of BQA “ Beef Quality Assurance” program, GAP 4 programs and Verified Natural principles is desired. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as with others. Good communication and paperwork skills. Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word and submitting all weekly reports via email. Must be a US citizen or possess a current green card. Valid driver’s license with a clean record. Nonsmoker, no drugs, no heavy drinkers and no drinking on the job. Applicants should submit a detailed work history and references. Starting salary is commensurate with experience.
