Description:
Adams Land & Cattle, LLC (ALCC) is a progressive, family owned cattle feeding business, located in Broken Bow, Nebraska. ALCC began in 1945 as a small dairy farm on 300 acres east of Broken Bow. Today, ALCC remains family-owned, but has grown into a multi-location operation with finishing lots in Nebraska and more than 100 backgrounding locations throughout the US and Canada.



ALCC has a leadership opportunity at our South and Feedlot in Broken Bow, Nebraska. This individual would be responsible for executing strategy within the Feeding area. (The span of responsibility could vary depending upon the current structure.)



This person will be responsible for:

- Being accountable for yearly goal setting and execution within areas.

- Executing cattle processing, sorting, and other logistics across all finish yard locations.

- Executing complete animal production (feeding, animal health, etc.) within all finish lot locations.

- Managing and executing all processing and animal health protocols.

- Managing all aspects of animal health, including pulling, treating, post-mortem examination/diagnosis, and reporting.

- Managing individual pens and monitoring animal health, and also applying the proper protocol and any needed triggering system on time and efficiently.

- Working closely with the company nutritionist and veterinarian to drive continuous improvement, optimum animal health outcomes, and optimum cattle performance.

- Managing all shipments of market ready and railer cattle to physically get them loaded and ensuring all cattle are free of withdrawals.

- Assisting with analysis of production systems and determining methods of improving efficiency, animal performance, or animal health outcomes.

- Overseeing project management with respect to any new project, construction, repair, or initiative within the areas.

- Overseeing equipment functionality and preventative maintenance within the areas.

- Managing all assigned areas’ facilities and equipment upkeep, repairs, replacements, and usage.

- Managing cost centers within the area at or favorable to budget, determining the appropriate capital expenditure schedule for replacing depreciated equipment, and working closely with the financial analyst assigned to area.

- Being the liaison for all intra company relationships at external finish yard locations (IT, Marketing, Feed Procurement, etc.).

- Working closely with R&D to ensure all methods associated with research trials are complied with and adhered to.

- Ensuring compliance with all internal and external regulatory requirements that pertain to ingredients and cattle feeding procedures.

- Ensuring quality control of feed and feed ingredients and communicating ingredient status to procurement team.

- Maintaining functionality of feeding IT hardware/software in conjunction with feeding department.

- Leading and developing supervisors and employees to be efficient and versatile. Developing bench strength within the areas and across other areas.

- Collaborating with Org Development on any human resource related topic or issue.

- Driving a culture of safety, animal welfare, and continuous improvement across all teams and locations.



Ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Strong interest or experience in leadership.

- Excellent time management, organization, and training skills.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

- Experience in at least 5 of the 8 following responsibilities: bunk management, identifying/treating sick cattle, processing cattle, loading out cattle, managing pharmaceutical withdrawals, managing cattle logistics, post-mortem examinations, or troubleshooting mill-related equipment.

- Experience with Micro Beef software, evaluating animal health reports, pen rider performance, and cattle performance information.

- Bachelor’s Degree preferred; can substitute 2 years of related feedlot experience with Associate’s Degree or 4 years of feedlot experience with a High School Diploma.

- 4 years of feedlot experience; 2+ years of management experience.



This position requires:

- Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally. Standing, sitting, walking, and reaching/handling/grasping frequently; carrying, lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling, bending, twisting, stairs, and kneeling/crouching occasionally; climbing and crawling rarely.

- Individual must be able to work in adverse weather conditions if needed.

- Able to travel overnight up to 10% of the time.

- Available by phone 100% of the time.
