Description:
Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to the saying "pretty is as pretty does", I couldn’t agree more. However every now and again you find something that is just as functional as it is pretty - and "Flashlight" really is just that. This gelding is the best of BOTH worlds. He looks as if he could be Trigger’s twin and like stepped right out of a Roy Rogers movie and into real life!!!

He’s done every job there is to do on the ranch and has also been roped on in the arena as well. Whether you need something to use outside to gather cattle, sort pairs, check calves or even use at some brandings - "Flashlight" is your man! He has put in REAL WORKING MILES on the ranch. He is extremely versatile and has a lot of ability but no matter what you’re doing he stays laid back and doesn’t get in a hurry. He is quiet and confident, giving you the peace of mind no matter if you’re in the arena, or going down the trail. I completely trust this horse and know when I swing my leg over him, he’s carried me through every situation I have asked him to and has never offered any kind of buck, rear, or bolting. "Flashlight" will cross belly deep water or even swim across a river to get to the other side, maneuver his way safely through rough country, step over logs, ride through thick brush, and step up/down steep embankments without any degree of hesitation. He is very sure footed and always makes the right moves to ensure a safe, sturdy ride NO MATTER the terrain. He’s been ridden absolutely everywhere from the sandhills of Nebraska, to the desert of west Texas, to the heavily wooded areas and tall bluegrass of Kentucky.

I could go on all day about how much I enjoy riding this gelding outside whether it is to do a job or for leisure, but in addition to that, he’s just as nice in the arena as well. "Flashlight" is super easy to ride, there’s really nothing complicated about him. He has a smooth, pitter-patter jog or will step up into a faster, ground covering trot or just pick him right into that comfortable, "rocking horse" lope. Picks up both of his leads, side passes, has a great stop, backs up softly and easily, turns around both ways, and a true, one-handed neck rein. He is EXTREMELY honest and everyone that has ridden him loves that about him, it doesn’t take much for anyone to get on him and be able to appreciate this type of a horse. He also has about 5 months of roping training in the arena and has been roped on out of the box.

"Flashlight" was born and raised on the Haythorn Ranch located in the rolling sandhills of Nebraska. The horses born and raised at the Haythorn are very well sought after and it’s easy to see why. They are a piece of history that have been carefully preserved and come from generations and generations of great horses both inside and outside of ranch work. Just take a moment to read this excerpt taken directly off of the ranch’s website - "At the same time that horses were being replaced by horsepower on most modern-day ranches, they were still being used on the Haythorn to put up the hay, feed the cows, and brand the stock. Horses have played a pivotal role in the ranch’s survival ever since Harry loaded his saddle on a train and headed for Baker, Oregon, where he gathered in 500 head of horses and railed them back to Nebraska. Ever since then, the Haythorn name has been synonymous with good working horses. The Haythorn Ranch was the first Nebraska ranch to register Quarter Horses. When the American Quarter Horse Association gave its first ever Remuda Award in 1993, it was fitting that the Haythorns received it. They have since been joined by the 6666 Ranch and the Waggoner Ranch. That’s lofty company indeed."

Standing 15 hands and weighing in around 1130 lbs, "Flashlight" is quite frankly the perfect size for anything or anyone. He has straight legs, solid feet, and is built to last! He loves any sort of attention you will give him, however he is not pesky or bothersome by any means. He knows what boundaries are and happily respects them. "Flashlight" stands to be saddled, groomed, pick up all 4 feet, bathe, etc. He doesn’t move around when you go to get on and once mounted, he will patiently wait for you to ask him to do whatever is to come next. Again, no buck, rear, barn sourness to this guy, he truly just wants to please. He is up to date on all vaccinations, deworming, farrier, coggins, etc. "Flashlight" has the background, training, experience that make him very versatile in his abilities and he would undoubtedly make a great addition to anyone’s barn. I will be so sad to see this one go, he’s a complete sweetheart but I know someone will appreciate this stunning gelding as much as I have!
