Description:
I am seeking a cowboy for the spring works on a small family ranch in north central Oregon. We range from 600 foot to 3000 foot in elevation, and the climate is relatively mild so our cows run outside year round and calve starting March 1. We also retain all our calves and purchase calves in the fall to run as yearlings. Will have many pasture rotations to make and then we will have to put everything on a truck to ship to various locations for summer pasture starting about April 25th and continuing through June. We will be branding everything somewhere in that time period. Lots of herd work and lots of country to cover. Ideal candidate would have experience working on a large crew as well as alone, a good understanding of how to lead off and make a drive if I am not able to do it myself. Experience riding and starting colts is a must, experience training reined cow horses or cutters would be a plus. Must know how to shoe, be willing to stay in a camp type situation for a few days here and there, be willing to repair and build some fence if necessary, and experience catching and leading wild cows would be a definite plus. This could turn into a full time long term position for the right candidate. 2 bedroom 2 bathroom house with wood stove and electric heat provided. Dogs are encouraged if they are good for something and up to 5 personal horses allowed. Will need a minimum of 3 horses. Colts are fine. Candidate could come at any time but the cowboying will be slow until March 1st.
