Description:
This is a used sterling silver mounted handmade curb bit made by Gordon Hayes. It is marked GH on the port. Gordon is a long time bit and spur maker from Santa Margarita, California and is listed in Bits & Spurs Motifs, Techniques and Modern Makers by Ned and Jody Martin. Gordon has built bits and spurs most of his life and started making seriously in 1971.

The bit is completely handmade with no laser cut pieces. The steel has a natural patina and the cheek pieces are mounted with sterling bars. The back of the mouthpiece is inlaid with copper stripes. There are marks on the mountings from use. When laid on a table there is about 1/16” rock. It should not affect the usability of the bit. This would be a nice bit to use or to add to your collection.
