The bit is marked Dilworth and numbered 200 inside one cheek piece. Lane is from Orem, Utah and currently lives in Leeds. His work is illustrated in Bits & Spurs Motifs, Techniques and Modern Makers by Ned & Jody Martin. This is one of Lane’s early bits. His workmanship and engraving are exceptional. The back of the bars are inlaid with copper stripes. The cheeks, collars, and bars are steel and the port is stainless. The hinged port only moves about a ½” before taking hold and moving the full mouthpiece. The collars are mounted with engraved sterling silver. The cheek pieces are inlaid with sterling silver stripes and mounted with sterling beads. It does not look like the bit has ever been in a horse’s mouth. The bit is not bent, broken, or repaired. This would be a nice bit to use or to add to a collection.
