Description:
My name is Bill and am seeking a position on a ranch. If you need someone to operate tractors (with loaders), swathers, hay mowers, balers, combines, do fencing, use a brush hog, drive stock/grain trucks, operate dump trucks, back hoes, and do machinery maintenance let me know. I can even harness and drive a team of horses if you need. I can pick up and move 75 lbs. or somewhat more if needed.

(Please read “ABOUT” me below -- concerning my RANCHING experience).

I have spent the last 4 years working at state parks in maintenance. This has involved maintaining irrigation systems, operated tractors with loaders, electrical repair, plumbing repair, building maintenance, operated backhoes, used brush hogs, operated bobcats (with attached skid steer grapple bucket and separate attached loader), running large diesel mowers, used chainsaws, split wood rounds with splitter, along with driving standard stick-shift dump trucks and pickups.

My business world was in store management, later I moved into software development. I always missed the ranching business and the closest I could come to getting out in the fresh air, giving me a feeling of being on a horse, was riding a Goldwing motorcycle.

I pride myself in seeing things that need to be done and if not assigned another priority will seek those out and work them. I have 15 years’ experience in leather work (started as a hobby), so I can repair and build, most leather items. I have my own tack which includes saddles, chaps, bridles and hackamores.

If you are looking for an all-around person to help on your ranch let me know. You can email me at csdc@comcast.net or phone me. Note: If you phone me -- with all the robot and telemarketer calls now days -- I simply let all unknown numbers go to voice mail. So please leave me a message and your number (please repeat the number and your name) and I will get back to you.

A LITTLE ABOUT MY POST RANCHING EXPERIENCE

I was raised in the Nebraska sandhills north of North Platte on a farm my folks had. I got my first horse at the age six (a gift from my aunt). She was a tall sorrel named Lady. She was a fast horse and could turn on a dime. By age eight I was out working in the fields. I herded cattle on our place and my uncle’s ranch northeast of us. I helped rope calves, branded, vaccinated, repaired fence, fed cattle and mucked out barns.

We had two teams that I drove. Both teams were good work horses. Later in Montana, for a summer, I worked for two ranches that needed a driver as they could not find help that knew how to harness and drive a team.

By the time I was 12 we had moved to Colorado and that was my beginning of riding semi broke and unbroke horses. My father had been a rancher in Wyoming (before my time) and had broke and trained cutting horses so under his guidance I learned how to break and train them. I was assigned four barely broke horses at the ranch and all of them bucked. One was completely unbroke, but because we could not get the bucking out of her - she was finally sold to a rodeo group.

At age 14 we had moved to Montana and during the summers I worked on a 5000-acre ranch (except the one summer I drove teams for those ranches south of us). After high school the owner of the ranch asked me to come back to work for him because of my knowledge of cattle. I helped with calving, operated a swather, baled hay, mowed hay, raked hay, stacked bales and haystacks, ran a self-propelled combine, drove stock and grain trucks, operated gas and diesel tractors, fed cattle in the winter, worked line irrigation, and of course repaired machinery.

While on the ranch I had two horses to work with. One should have been a work horse, but he turned into a pretty good cutting horse. The ranch has hence been sold off and the owners have passed on. Later I did some riding for some friends of mine in Kalispell, MT that had a couple of horses that needed exercising. One of those horses was a Tennessee walker. A great horse to ride.

When I entered the business world it was in the grocery industry. I eventually worked my way to top management positions then the opportunity presented itself for me to get into software development. Later I worked in law and justice software. I also have a financial background I gained working for a company in 2012-2013.

Since I retired I do not like sitting around doing nothing. I LIKE to do physical WORK. I have been volunteering (no wages) at state parks off and on. They supply trailer parking and utilities. I have my own income and I will WORK for FREE if need be, just provide room/utilities like the parks do and full or partial board. All I ask is that room be a house or trailer, not a bunkhouse situation. I am single and do not use drugs, smoke, or drink alcohol. I can provide phone numbers for references. My preference is WA state or connecting states, but will consider all areas.
