Wanting to Hire: Full-Time Cowdog Trainer; we are looking to hire immediately, if possible. Location: Lockwood, MO Must relocate to our area; we will not be sending pups/dogs to anyone. We have Hangin’ Tree Cowdogs We are looking for someone who has experience training herding cowdogs. There are many qualifications we will be looking for but the trainer needs to be able to teach the dogs basic commands like: down, come here, teach directions, teach them to ‘stay back’ on a herd, hunt em up, etc… Basically, anything they need to know for working conditions. There is a list of commands that we expect but that can be discussed more in detail later-on. We expect our pups to start ‘fetching’ cattle to us BEFORE any driving is taught to them. We use our dogs on a daily basis to gather large herds of fresh cattle and we have high expectations of what our dogs should accomplish. They HAVE to listen in fast-paced scenarios and, if given a command, they need to respond immediately (not after the 3rd time we ask them) until a further command is given. When we tell our dogs to ‘down’ they are to remain there until we command them ‘up.’ We want someone who has patience to work with pups everyday but stern enough to make them mind and teach them manners. We believe in socializing our dogs and letting them run around together in a monitored situation so they can exercise and get used to being around each other. This includes males. They need to be able to work together without fighting with each other during gatherings. We are looking for someone who can train, both, aggressive cowdogs or dogs with more herding instincts. For our program, we typically keep more aggressive dogs that can handle un-broke cattle and stop a running or fighting cow/pair; however, all dogs need a good control on them and must mind. On our ranch, we typically dog-break our cattle on the way to the corral because we don’t have time to dog-break herds before gatherings. This is why it is imperative we have quality dogs with quality training. Trainer must be HONEST, hard-working, willing to take on challenges, responsible, have strong work ethics and willing show up every day to work. We require a list of references- NO EXCEPTIONS. We will be contacting references. Do not list just family. We need non-family members that you have previously trained dogs for and videos of training progress would be nice, too.
