Description:
My name is Greg Loomis I’m in search of a new ranch job. I have been given my official notice that the current ranch I work for has the youngest son coming home in April and I will be out of a job come June 1st. I have worked here for 2 and half years and have enjoyed my employers very much, they have treated me outstanding and have been one of best jobs i have ever had. I had hopes for going out and buying a place and few cows this year but with the out come of this job I am having to post pone.

My background:

This will be long because I want to be upfront and honest bout everything and want folks to know enough about me if you call that you feel like you have a good grasp of what I can do and who I am. I have worked as a ranch hand and cowboy since I was a junior in high school. I worked in feed yards as a doctor and pen rider and head cowboy. I can sure enough tell you the back end of a cow from the front. I worked for a reputable horse sale out in Wyoming, helping to train roping horses and ranch working horses for their yearly sale. I love horses and training them and have really grown an interest in cow horse work in the last few years. I am not fully capable of showing or training for cow horse events, but I can make a nice ranch horse that is honest as the day is long. I have experience in all aspects of ranch work; calving cows, pairing out, roping and doctoring alone or with someone, fencing, digging post wholes by hand or with hydraulic digger. I have operated most any kind of machinery; payloader, skid steer, tractors, feed wagons, baler, mowers, etc. and have a cdl to drive a truck. I don’t have much experience in farm work as far as planting, spraying or running a combine. Also, I am unfamiliar with irrigation equipment. I have worked on windmills as far as servicing and replacing leather on them. I have put up countless bales of hay and rather enjoy running a baler but know how to run bar mowers, rakes, hydro swings and disc mowers as well. I can service most equipment and run a grease gun. I know how to weld and bush fix things or how to fix them right and keep them working. I am willing to answer any more questions and will supply references when asked.

My wife and I:

As I mentioned before, I had hopes in starting my own place and not need to find a new job but God has a way of changing your plans. Last year i was baptized and I attend church regularly. I have even been helping lead a group on Saturday evenings. My wife Dotti and I were married June 3, 2016. We have been together for 4 years. She graduated from Black Hills State University with a photography major. We have 3 dogs: one old farm dog that lays in yard and doesn’t do a thing, a heeler that is well mannered and works well for me and when I’m not around he hides from the world, and we have a husky she is tied up or with us when we let her lose. My wife has a indoor cat. (not my choice but she’s had it since before we met so couldn’t get rid of it.) It is well mannered and I have not had any issues with it smelling or tearing up anything inside. I have 3 horses 2 are broke and one is a coming 3 year old filly. I have a 4 year old filly that I started and has been used extensively on the ranch she can handle anything ranch work requires. Also, for the big issue I have a coming 3 year old stud. He is papered, well bred and I have him at a cow horse trainer for 90 days then I will have him back to calve on. I truly wish to leave him intact as I have plans to show and breed him. I know how this can be on some operations so if there is a way I can keep him stalled or in his own pen I will do the extra work it takes for him on my own time. But I will use him on the ranch to make him well mannered and safe for everyone to be around.

Request:

I only have a few requests I will mention up front and most all things can be worked through.

1. I’m not perfect and if you are looking for someone who has never broken something on accident or by a fluke because everyone was in a hurry; I will not be for you. Especially if you intend on jumping down my back for it. I will not take well to it. Things break and mistakes happen. I will fix them and always try to be better the next time. I don’t break things on purpose and i know no one wants their things abused and that is not what i do. I have worked for a couple people that every time something happened they lectured me for hours and claimed that i broke it from purposeful neglect. I don’t need the headache of that again.

2. If you yell or scream at me over how I do things or handle them I will be packed up and gone within the week.

3. I love my wife and we wish to start a family so if time off is not possible and you work more then 12 hours a day every single day of the year, it will probably not work out. ( I completely understand calving and haying some times require long hours and that’s okay but working for every hour like you own me will not happen.)

4. As I said before, I am a Christian. I believe Jesus Christ died on a cross to save me and anyone who excepts him. I attend church and God has worked in my life in so many ways. I don’t swear except on occasion, I don’t drink (never have and it doesn’t bother me that others do). I don’t smoke or do drugs and will take a test to prove it if necessary.

5. Be honest and upfront with me and I will be honest and upfront with you. I am looking for long term employment, I’m truly looking for a forever place to settle and live.

If you made it this far thank you for your time and consideration. You can call and reach me anytime at 605-848-2362.
