42 purebred Santa Gertrudis heifers handpicked from former Governor Dolph Briscoe’s herd. These heifers are all calfhood vaccinated, pink-nosed, and dehorned. They just graduated from cutting horse school.



Cutting horse trainers like to train their young prospects on skittish cattle. After about 45 days of training, the cattle get used to the movement and are no longer spooky enough to be of use as a training aid. They are so gentle now that they just stand there and the horses can’t learn anything from them. That’s the way we like them! GENTLE!



They are on lush tallow weed, vetch, and burr clover near Coolidge, Texas east of Waco. Low birthweight Hereford bulls will be put out on them May 1. The combination of good disposition, high quality forage, and long age should make for a great breed-up. Study the quality on these cattle. Lot’s of timber (bone) and yet feminine. That Hereford/Santa Gertrudis cross will produce some market-topping steers and some superb replacement heifers.
