I will be graduating in December of 2016 and am seeking a 2016 summer internship at a ranch to broaden my horizons and to hone my skills. I possess simple mechanical skills, including wrenching and welding, and I am skilled in planting, harvesting, and hay production. I am also experienced in operating machinery in a safe, efficient manner. I am considering a permanent move West upon graduation with my fiancé, who is about to begin veterinary school. I would prefer to work in Montana, Wyoming, or Nebraska, but no offers will go unconsidered. I have worked in various fields of agriculture and began as a hand on a Holstein dairy for 4 years to learn all aspects of dairy production, from calving and weaning to heifer/cow breeding. I then moved on to work as a veterinary assistant for 1 year at a mixed veterinary practice that emphasized large animal medicine. Most recently, I worked as a hand at Green Mesa Farms, a beef operation which fed, on average, 400-600 head of 6-weight cattle until slaughter. This facility also holds the Southern West Virginia Bull Test and a 300+ cow/calf operation. At the dairy and beef operations, we produced alfalfa, corn, soybeans, rye, and dry hay (timothy, orchardgrass, and tall fescue). With my strong background in the agricultural industry and on-the job experience, I would make a good, hard working addition to your ranch operation. Upon completion of this summer internship, I hope to become more experienced in the ranching industry and to create future contacts with well-established ranchers.
