This is a non-salaried position that would be held in exchange for housing. There is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home complete with kitchen, living and dining room located on the ranch that would be yours in exchange for part-time help. We can provide furnishings if you don’t plan to bring your own. There are lots of opportunities for employment close to the ranch. We are 12 minutes from downtown Mabank and very close to Gun Barrel City. The ranch is only ~45 minutes to the center of Dallas (where we live).  We currently lease our land to a cattleman with ~38 head of cattle on our 90 acres. We want to start our own cow/calf operation and plan to purchase a herd of at least 30 registered black Angus cattle in the next few months. We need someone with experience to help maintain our pastures and care for the cattle. Our preference is someone who has experience with calving, practical veterinary work (vaccinations/pregnancy checks/etc.), branding, castration, moving cattle and potentially AI. We would also like the candidate to have experience in farming hay, pasture management and operating farm equipment.  Our plan is to continue buying or leasing land and growing our ranch into an operation of ~300 certified black angus cattle over the next decade. This job could turn into a full-time position with additional employees as we grow the operation. We have a wood-working shop and large vegetable garden on site as well. In addition to the existing home you would occupy, we are building an additional home with pool so that we can spend more time at the ranch. We would also consider paying for you to attend career-related seminars and trainings and obtaining any necessary licenses. This is essentially a start-up opportunity for a ambitious individual to be the manager of a multi-faceted company with an emphasis on raising registered black angus cattle.
