Description:
Leroy is an exceptional mule that is offered for your consideration. This mule has been part of our family for the past two years. He has gathered cattle, rode pens, and pulled sick calves. He will side pass both directions, walk, trot, lope and he will open and close gates. He has been to the mountains twice he will cross water and logs. Point his nose and he will usually go. He has been a solid mount for me and never gets fresh. Ride him every day or once a month and he will be the same. He has taken the outside on most of our gathers. He has stamina and likes to cover country. He is SMOOTH to ride. Leroy is good with dogs, kids, and just about anything at all. He doesn’t bite or kick and he is a saint to be clipped. He is also good with his ears. This big white mule is also broke to work. I have only hooked him twice, but he never took a wrong step. He is good with dogs and with carrying things. He goes to the arena and carries goats and poles out of the arena for the kids playday practices. He also drags the barrels when needed. I just can’t say enough Good things about him. He has been solid and reliable.

So let’s continue with a few issues that he has. He doesn’t like dead things - piles of bones are ok, but if it smells of rot, he isn’t going close to it. The first dead calf completely blew his mind. Since then he has gotten better, but he still won’t go within 10 feet of it. Some days he backs out of the trailer, other days he doesn’t. It’s not worth the fight to me, so I haven’t made an issue of it. He has been hauled extensively and he travels well.

He is not suitable for a beginner. My kids have rode him and they get along great, but they know how to ride. He rides away from horses and the barn just fine, but if he thinks he is going home, and i ride him passed the barn, it takes a little encouragement to change his mind. It’s nothing bad or mean. It’s not a bad habit and he isn’t sour. You just have to convince him that he’s not staying at the barn and be firm about it. As soon as he walks out, he is fine and will go where you point him. I think with a beginner, this would get worse. And lastly, he can be pushy. Get after him and he will remember his manners. I have worked on this and have decided that it’s just his genetics.

The only reason Leroy is looking for a new home is because we visit the mountains once a year or every two years. Leroy loves trail riding. We usually work cattle and he just isn’t cowy at all. He will move whatever direction he is told - frontwards, backward, left, right, sideways, etc... But he won’t watch a cow. Unfortunately, I think I have tried to make Leroy into a horse and he isn’t a horse, but he is a dang nice mule. He sells with a two week guarantee. Don’t like him, bring him back in good condition, sane, and sound, and I will buy him back. Ride him for the next 15 years and bring him back to me for retirement.

This mule is amazing. He has taught me a lot and he deserves to do what he was bred for.

If you have made it this far, and you have questions, text is best. I will be absolutely honest about Leroy. I have lots of pictures to share. My main concern is making sure he finds a home that suits him.
