The etching is entitled “The Outlaw”. The signature was printed and is not pencil signed. The etching is on heavy bond printing paper. There is discoloration around the etching on the printing paper that will not be seen when framed. There are a few small spots on the etching itself. Measurements: Outside Dimensions of Printing Paper approximately 12 ⅛" wide x 15 ¾” tall, etching dimensions approximately 7 ¾” wide x 8 ½” tall About the Artist: Reinhold H. Palenske lived in both Illinois and California. He is known for genre-history, illustration, etchings. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and was a graphic artist and painter. His work is in the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library, and the Royal Gallery of London, England. During his career his work was reproduced in The Spur, the Washington Star, and the Chicago Daily News. Palenske’s love of animals and nature was almost inborn, for both his father and grandfather were cavalry officers whose love of horses is traditional. In addition to being a master etcher, he was a sportsman and hunter of prominence. About the Etching Process: Etching is a method of making prints from a metal plate, usually copper, into which the design has been incised by acid. The copperplate is first coated with an acid-resistant substance, called the etching ground, through which the design is drawn with a sharp tool. The artist can print the entire edition his or herself or have a professional printer do them all at once as to keep the overall consistency in each piece.
