This type of gelding doesn’t come up for sale very often, but when they do they are just about priceless. He is a true all around horse that can and will do anything you ask of him and do it well. He is the complete package: extremely good looking, good minded, broke the best, and quiet and gentle on top of it all. Rusty is a stout 13 year old red roan gelding, 15.2 hh and close to 1250 pounds, with a big hip, wide chest, plenty of bone and a pretty head with a kind eye. He is AQHA registered as “Rusty Skip Shi” #4659436. No horse is perfect, but this one is pretty close. He is a total gentleman on the ground, with a sweet, friendly nature and a willing attitude. Rusty has spent the majority of his life on a ranch out in West Texas, where he was used for all phases of ranch work, including sorting pairs, roping and doctoring cattle in the pasture, ponying colts and dragging calves. He is stout, tough, and could pull a house down if you asked him to. Rusty is strong to the horn and good on the end of a rope, never getting excited or upset when working cattle. You can even rope off of him without a bridle, just a rope around his neck, he is so broke. But he is just as happy taking a leisurely stroll down the trail as he is working on the ranch, and would be perfectly content as someone’s trail horse and best friend. Rusty is laid back and quiet, yet responsive, and will adjust himself to the level of his rider. He will not take advantage of a less experienced rider and will step up his game for someone who really knows what they are doing. He is broke to death, with an excellent one handed neck rein, and will spin, slide to a stop, do beautiful rollbacks and work off your leg. Rusty will sidepass and work a gate and has wonderfully smooth gaits that are easy to sit to. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, will happily lead or follow, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. Rusty has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. We have hauled him all over and he is always the same quiet horse everywhere we take him. Rusty has excellent ground manners, stands quietly tied, gets along great with other horses, will load in any type of trailer you ask him to, and saddles and bridles easily.
