She is absolutely 100% gentle for anyone, including children and beginner riders. She had been on the same ranch out in west Texas since she was 3 years old, until we purchased her. She is a true all around horse that can and will do anything you ask of her. Jewel is a 14 year old mare with the prettiest color you’ve ever seen on a horse. She is a dappled buckskin mare , very well built with a big hip, wide chest, plenty of bone and a baby doll head with a kind eye. Jewel is 14.3 hh and close to 1250 pounds, and is AQHA registered as “Jewel Ashwood” #4591698. She is old foundation bred, by a grandson of Docs Jack Frost. She rides quietly on a loose rein but can really step it up if you ask her to. She never gets hot, mad, or acts mare-ish, and is the same horse every time you ride her. She is gentle and stays that way, whether you ride her every day or once a year. When we bought Jewel she had been turned out for two years, and we literally pulled her out of the pasture, threw a saddle on her, and rode her right off without warming her up. Jewel is sweet, safe, sane, and dependable, and one heck of a looker, turning heads everywhere we take her. We have found nothing that bothers her or spooks her, and she is very willing and tries hard to please. We keep Jewel turned out with both mares and geldings and she gets along with them all without a problem. She has been used on the ranch for all phases of ranch work, including roping and sorting cattle in the pasture, dragging calves, doctoring cattle, and checking fence. She has been ridden by children and beginner riders, has carried a flag, and has been lightly heeled off of. Jewel is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. She is very sure footed and will go up, over or through anything you point her at. She has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off. Jewel is very gentle on the ground with excellent ground manners, and is very easy to catch. She rides just as good bareback with nothing but a rope around her neck as she does with a saddle and bridle. Jewel is broke the way one should be, with an excellent one handed neck rein and a great stop. She will side pass, open and shut gates, and has the smoothest little trot and rocking horse lope. She will not take advantage of a less experienced rider, and will step it up for someone who is more experienced. Jewel is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. She can be ridden by herself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. She has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it.
