Hello! My name is Jessica Van Hoose. I have 20 years of ranching experience. I have done everything from starting horses to finishing show and ranch horses. I have managed cattle herds before (Black Angus, Herefords and many mixes). I have worked in feed lots and managed teams while at the feed lot to get work done efficiently. I have a Bachelors degree in livestock, wildlife and business management. Summary

Livestock, Wildlife, and Business Management. I have taken many classes that have prepared me

to work in just about any aspect of the agriculture or animal industries. I am a hard worker with an

exceptional work ethic. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty. I enjoy a hard day’s work.

Head Dog Trainer (Fort Worth)

December 2017 - Present

Using ecollar technologies, I train dogs and any age, size and breed anything from basic obedience

to therapy dog training to service dog training. I also train for nose work.

Veterinary Technician at Carrollton West Pet Hospital

February 2017 - November 2017 (10 months)

Being a veterinary technician in a fast paced environment, I helped in rooms with animal restraint

during examinations. I administered medications to hospitalized animals, including birds, reptiles,

and small mammals. I prepared various animals for many different kinds of surgery. I was charged

with monitoring and running anaesthesia on animals of all kinds. I would draw blood and other

specimens for labs an animals.

Ranch Manager

May 2016 - January 2017 (9 months)

I am responsible for feeding all animals and maintaining husbandry for 40 head of registered Angus

cattle as well as 40 head of commercial cattle as well. I am responsible for getting projects done,

both that are asked of me and finding ones that need to be done. I ride, maintain and train (for

roping, cutting and sorting, barrels and colt starting) 4 horses plus two of my own. I keep up with

general maintanence of equipment and facilities, including tractors, trucks, trailers, bobcats, hay

equipment, backhoes, bulldozer, and several others. I spray chemical when needed. I have to keep

a log of this and know how to keep this log. I weld fence with both a mig welder and a stick welder.

I must maintain electric fence as well as barbed wire. I build fence as well.

Monitoring animals on an hourly basis including taking temperature, pulse, respiratory rate,

mentation, iv fluids, giving medications, among other things. Administering subcutaneous fluids

to dogs, cats and birds. Administering intramuscular injection to dogs, cats, birds and other exotic

species. Tube feeding /medicating puppies, kittens and birds. Placing central lines. Measuring,

positioning and setting machine for xrays on dogs, cats and exotics. Blood collection on dogs,

cats, birds, and ferrets. Preparing staining and reading blood smears. Operating fluid pumps.

Operating blood work analyzers (Vettest, Lasercyte, VetLyte, Heska CBC and Heska Chemistry).

Set- up and operate ECG machines, Anesthesia Machine, Doppler (for blood pressures), Snider

intensive care unit. Urinalysis collection by cystocentisis. Prepare and evaluate urine sediment,

fecal samples (floats, direct, and smears). Identify Coccida, Giardia, Campylobacter, spirochetes,

clostridium, white blood cells and red blood cells. Anesthetic induction using both propofol and

inhalant. Surgery room set up for many different surgeries. Anesthetic monitoring. Prep and pack

surgical packs including laceration packs, surgery packs, huck towels, suction tubes and other

miscellaneous items for surgery.

Veterinary Assistant at Abilene Animal Hospital

October 2013 - January 2014 (4 months)

I helped Dr. Early in treatment rooms, restraining difficult animals so that no one would get hurt,

including the animal. I treated animals under the direction of Dr. Early, which included giving

medications orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intravenously. I put IV catheters in animals

to be able to administer IV fluids. I ran blood work on IDEXX machines as well as looked at blood

and fecal samples under the microscope. I counted out many different kinds of prescription drugs

and kept logs on the controlled substances. I helped clients check in and out using the computers.

I worked on sales of other items in the clinic such as dog foods, cat foods, treats, flea and tick

treatment and prevention, heart worm treatment and prevention, and several others. I monitored

animals during surgery by monitoring heart rates with a stethoscope and monitoring animals on

the gas machine by monitoring how much anesthesia was going to them and making sure carbon

dioxide didn’t build up in there lungs. I took care of the clinic on the weekends including taking care

of any sick or injured animals that were staying there as well as animals that were boarding.

April 2013 - October 2013 (7 months)

I called Alumni of Abilene Christian University and updated their personal information that we had

in the system. I also asked them to make a contribution to the Exceptional fund that provided

scholarships to many of the students at our school, who would not be able to attend without it.

Hand

January 2010 - March 2013 (3 years 3 months)

I branded, castrated, vaccinated, dewormed and used hormone treatment on cattle. I treated sick

cattle. I worked with a couple dangerous drugs that if used or administered wrong would kill the

animal or me. I worked with the cattle to get them up to the chute in the calmest and easiest way

possible. I cleaned water troughs at least once a week and fed cattle and horses both. I helped

organize teams that would come in and help process the cattle. I would mix up the right amount of

vaccinations and make sure the syringe guns were loaded and ready to go. I would come in earlier

than most to make sure that everything was ready to go. I was responsible for driving company

equipment including trucks, trailers, and tractors. I was also in the office helping pay bills and

make sure that everyone had their pay checks as well as general things that Ray needed done in

the office.

Student Worker at ACU Rhoden Farms and Laboratories

September 2010 - March 2012 (1 year 7 months)

Cared for livestock, which included checking water and feed, vaccinating and deworming, herd

maintenance, quarantine and treatment of sick animals. I maintained and built fence lines. I did

a little bit of horse training. I did some soil sampling as well as pasture maintenance, including

spraying for mesquite and prickly pear. I used power tools and heavy equipment, such as mowers,

tractors, drills, saws of all kinds, and several others. I worked out in the 100+ degree heat and had

to lift 50-75 pounds on several occations.

June 2010 - August 2010 (3 months)

I helped Dr. Brown in patient rooms by restraining animals so no one would get hurt, including the

animal. I monitored animals in surgery with a stethoscope. I was on call certain weekends and

would come in to help Dr. Brown with emergency cases. I went on many farm calls with the doctor.
