If you are looking for a safe, gentle horse that can do a bunch of different jobs and can be thrown out to pasture and ridden once a day or once a year and still be the same horse, then take a look at Sugar. She has been used on the ranch for all phases of ranch work, has carried flags in the grand entry, and has also been ridden extensively on trails. Sugar is a 17 year old mare but don’t let her age fool you, she is sound and has plenty of life left in her. She is a consignment horse and has been owned by the same family for over 8 years. She was turned out the last 4 years after the kids lost interest, and when we hopped on her a couple months ago she rode right off perfectly, without bucking or acting silly. Sugar is gentle for just about anyone with basic riding skills, and stays that way even if not ridden regularly. She is 14.3 hh, nicely built and stout. The girl riding her in the video is 6 foot tall, to give you an idea. with a Her idea of being fresh is to be a little quick for the first two minutes, and that’s it. Sugar is laid back and rides quietly on a loose rein, but will get up and go when you ask her to. She would be the perfect horse for a young cowboy who wanted to help his dad or granddad around the ranch, a weekend rancher who wanted a horse to check fence and push cattle, or just a safe horse to have around the ranch for trail riding or occasional cattle work With her handle she would also make a nice drill team horse or playday horse. Sugar is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. In fact, nothing bothers her or scares her at all, she is very solid. She can be ridden by herself or with other horses, will easily lead or follow, and when a child or beginner rider is on her she knows it is her job to stay right with the other horses out on the trails.
