She is a cute 15 year old brown mare, 14hh and stout enough to carry an adult, with plenty of bone and a big hip. Skittles started out life as a ranch horse, then was used as a heel horse before being turned into a trail horse and playday horse. She is safe for just about anyone to ride, with extremely good ground manners and a sweet, quiet disposition. I bought her for my 2 year old son to ride and he has, but he is more comfortable on his small pony, so unfortunately we are having to find her a new home. But she is very patient with him and so gentle when he is around her, we trust her completely with him. Skittles has been used to lead line kids as young as 4 at playdays and out on trails, and has been ridden independently by kids as young as 6 on trails as well as in playdays. She has been hauled a bunch, to different ranches and state parks as well as to tons of playdays. Her favorite thing to do is ride down the trails, and nothing bothers her or spooks her. She rides quietly on a loose rein and will happily lead, follow, or separate from the group. She is the type of horse you can pull out and ride once a month and not worry about getting bucked off of or having to warm up. Skittles has even attended a couple Martha Josey clincs with her previous owner. She has been used to do drill team, has carried a flag in grand entries, ridden in parades, and has even done some trick riding. There is literally nothing you cannot do with this mare. Skittles will run barrels, poles, goat tie, cloverleaf, and every other event. She is certainly not ever going to be the fastest horse out there, but she is honest with no gate issues. Skittles is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and will go up, over or through anything you point her at. She has a good one handed neck rein, will sidepass, and work a gate. She has a very smooth trot but does take a little pushing to get into a lope. Skittles is excellent for the shoer, easy to catch, and stands quietly tied. She occasionally will hesitate a second before loading, never nasty about it but doesn’t always load as quickly as we would like her to. She has a bump on her left knee from many, many years ago. We have had it x-rayed and it is not in the joint and does not affect her range of motion or her soundness, but it is there. Asking $2800. Call Wendy for more information at 210-363-1883.
