He is built like a quarter horse, the perfect size at 14.3 hh and stout with a big hip, plenty of bone, a pretty head and neck and a nice mane and tail! Smurf is 8 years old and has been used in the feedlot and on the ranch his entire life. He came out of West Texas, where he was used for all phases of ranch work including sorting pairs, riding pens, and dragging calves to the fire. Smurf rides quietly on a loose rein, with a really good handle and smooth gaits. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. Smurf is tough and sure footed, and he will go up, over and through anything you point him at. He is an excellent ranch horse but is cowy and has the athletic ability to make a nice sorting horse, and the mind and disposition to make a nice pleasure horse or family horse. Smurf would be perfect for an experienced child wanting to ride on the ranch with his dad or grandpa and learn to work cattle. He will work off your leg, sidepass, work a gate, and has a one handed neck rein. Smurf is content to walk quietly all day long but will easily step into a trot or lope when asked. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. He has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. Smurf’s hardship registration with the ApHC is pending. He is easy to catch, load, haul and shoe, he stands quietly tied and gets along well with other horses. $5500.
