Blackjack came off of a large ranch in New Mexico, where he had been for just about his entire life. They recently had a dispersal sale due to the lack of grass and upcoming winter, and we bought him and one other gelding from them. Blackjack is a 13 year old gelding, 15.2 hh and black as two feet down a stovepipe. He has been a ranch horse and has also packed dudes around on the weekends, but he was retired from the ranch in New Mexico because he no longer could withstand 7-8 hour days in the rocky, hilly terrain where he had grown up. Blackjack is an excellent trail horse, and he has been taught to travel out and cover some ground. He has a great one handed neck rein, stops easily, is very sure footed and will go up, over, or through anything you point him at, and is not bothered by running water, tall, thick brush, or rocky terrain. Blackjack has been roped off of, has sorted cattle, and has also been used to pony colts. He is strong and tough and will go all day long if you ask him to. He rides quietly on a loose rein, and is very responsive so the minute you ask him to go he is ready. He has been ridden along the road and in traffic and is not at all bothered by it, and he can be ridden by himself or in large groups of horses with no problem. Blackjack has also carried the flag in many grand entries and the lights, noises and sounds do not bother him. He is too responsive for a child or beginner rider, but has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off. Blackjack does have a little arthritis in his knees from all the years of riding in the mountains. He will get a tad sore if ridden really hard but he is sound for recreational trail riding or ranch work. He is high withered but a saddle fits him with no problem. Blackjack has good ground manners, is good for the shoer, stands quietly tied, loads and hauls without a problem, and can be caught anywhere. He is very friendly and loves attention. Asking $2500.
