Description:
Buddy is a stout, well built palomino gelding that came right off of the Huntsville Prison, where he was bred and raised. He was used daily by the guards, watching over prisoners and prowling the grounds. He was also used in their cattle division, roping and sorting cattle. The prison horses are ridden lots of miles in their lifetime but they are not hard miles, so although Buddy is 18, he is sound, in excellent health and looks half his age. He is a light palomino now but will be much more golden once he sheds his winter coat. Buddy is 15.2hh and wears a size 2 shoe, and is gentle as can be. He has been exposed to dogs, guns, people fighting, things being thrown at him, and nothing bothers him or scares him. Anyone who has ever ridden or been around one of these prison horses knows just what amazing animals they are! Buddy still has plenty of life left in him and would be good for just about anyone, including children and beginner riders. He has a good handle, an easy one handed neck rein, a nice smooth trot and rocking horse lope. Buddy has been taught to move out and will cover some ground, and easily trots and lopes without much encouragement. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. Buddy rides just as good bareback with a halter as he does with a saddle and bridle. I trust him enough to ride him bareback with my 17 month old son on him with me. He can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. Buddy has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. He has plenty of life left in him and will easily go so he would make an excellent playday horse for the kiddos. Buddy has excellent ground manners and is easy to catch, load, haul and shoe. We recently floated his teeth and pulled his coggins. $3000. Please call Wendy for more information at 210-363-1883.
