Description:
Long term stability, a peaceful environment, and private, fully furnished, nicely appointed rent-free accommodations for up to 2 adults are available in exchange for caretaking duties on our ranch. A minimum of 20 hours per week of paid wages is guaranteed along with utilities, Directv, and numerous benefits. Due to limitations on housing space and liability, no children or extended family members will be allowed.

Daily tasks for the caretaking position are simple and straightforward. There are no long hours, heavy lifting, or arduous labor such as cleaning stalls or carrying bales of hay. This is not a grunt job. The person who fills this position will work with us-not for us. The caretaker(s) will assist owners with feeding, watering, and caring for horses and other livestock at least twice per day in addition to providing security.

Daily Duties of the Caretaker:

- Assist owners in the care of horses, cattle, and other livestock (morning and evening), including feeding, watering, and occasionally assisting with treatment or administration of medication. (Accommodations for scheduled time off and holidays can be easily negotiated.)

- Provide security for the ranch/facility, particularly in owners’ absence, including frequently reporting to owners regarding observation of all horses, cattle, and other livestock to ensure safety.

Requirements of Applicants:

Qualified candidates will be mature, AT LEAST 45 YEARS OF AGE, in relatively good physical condition and without any type of medical condition that would prohibit or limit their ability to assist owners and perform the various daily tasks of the caretaker position. Along with these SPECIFIC REGUIREMENTS, a qualified candidate will have a verifiable background, references, and both knowledge and work history that reflects ranching and experience that includes daily care of 15 or more head of performance horses (for example, cutting, reining, or working cow horses) as well as cattle and other livestock. This position is for a working ranch and professional training/breeding facility-not a hobby farm. The horses being fed and cared for are all gentle; however, they vary in age and level of training, therefore prior experience in this area is mandatory. Candidates must be able to competently lead, handle, and control horses of all ages if necessary. Riding is not a requirement but would be appreciated. The ability to train is not a prerequisite and no trainers or outside training business will be allowed.

Candidates for this position must have verifiable references reflective of work performed on a ranch, farm, or at a training or breeding facility.

Applicants must have first hand experience and knowledge of living on a ranch and demonstrate full understanding, comprehension, and concern for the responsibilities and obligations of caring for horses and livestock on a daily basis. A qualified applicant must show initiative, work independently as needed, and without questioning or concern of owners’ plans, intent, or decisions. Helpful and insightful input is always welcome; however, unsolicited opinions, invasive questions, or comments concerning the operation or managememt of the ranch and/or facility or disseminating information of same are not. Applicants must demonstrate emotional stability and and be non-violent, drug-free, smoke-free, and drama-free.

Opportunities for additional wages paid on an hourly basis will be available for those with maintenance, handyman,mechanical,administrative or computer skills as needed.
