Description:
Searching for a unique, stimulating, and career-changing employment opportunity? NCHA Triple Crown Champion, NRHA World Champion, and AQHA World Champion and Professional Horseman, Joe Heim currently has two internships available beginning December 1, 2015. Each internship offers unlimited opportunities to gain valuable insight, professional perspective, and the knowledge, experience, and skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive horse industry. The carefully selected candidates chosen for these two privileged positions will have access to the private world of a highly esteemed, world renowned professional horse trainer known for his integrity, performance, and success. They’ll be privy to "insider" information and learn the nuances of training performance horses at the highest professional level in conjunction with acquiring valuable business management skills. Both the Personal Assistant and Protege’ will be provided with a variety of cutting bred horses (all bred and owned by Joe Heim Quarter Horses, LLC) to ride and receive private lessons on daily. Each intern will be equipped with skills, experience, business resources, and referrals needed to ensure future employment or self employment. A weekly stipend and private, fully furnished, nicely appointed housing with paid utilities, satellite tv, and laundry services are included. Due to limitations of space and liability issues no children, extended families, or pets are allowed. No personal horses, no boarding, no trainers with clientele or outside horses in training. No exceptions. Please don’t ask. Our policies will not change.

Hours will generally 8:00 to 5:00 PM, Mon-Fri (with one hour lunch break) but may vary slightly according to seasonal needs.

Personal Assistant:

The Personal Assistant will work closely with Joe Heim and will assist in both daily operations and administrative duties which include advertising, marketing, social media, sales, promotional events, and clinics. This internship is for a minimum of 6 months.

Responsibilities of Personal Assistant:

1. Assist in daily operations,

2. Saddle, groom, and prep horses for riding,

3. Advancement of riding skills and knowledge

of Western horsemanship, performance horses,

and the elements of horse training at the

professional level;

4. Private lessons and daily riding time;

5. Assist in sales prep and promotion;

6. Assist in administrative/marketing duties;

7. Occasional learning based attendance at various

horses shows, horse auctions, clinics, and

promotional events.

Qualifications for Personal Assistant:

The ideal candidate will be 21 years of age or

older, in good physical condition, and have the

following:

1. Prior verifiable experience working with and

around horses of all ages (no particular

breed or discipline),

2. Familiarity or basic understanding and

appreciation for Western Horsemanship;

3. Intermediate riding skills and verifiable

history of recent riding activity;

4. Intermediate-advanced computer skills;

5. Excellent reading comprehension and use of

correct grammar and punctuation;

6. Knowledge and experience with social

media, marketing, videography, photography,

and advertising;

7. A professional appearance and demeanor

accompanied by good manners, a humble

attitude, and respect for others, including

all animals;

8. Maturity accompanied by common sense, self

motivation, and attention to detail;

9. The desire to improve and advance current

riding skills to a higher level;

10. A work ethic that enables productivity and

ensures personal accomplishment.

Webster’s defines a protege’ as someone who is "protected or trained or whose career is furthered by a person of experience, prominence, or influence." As such, the candidate chosen for this unique and honored position will work closely with and under the supervision of Joe Heim to learn every element of Western horsemanship as well as all facets, philosophies, methods, techniques, and applications utilized in training performance horses; in particular, cutting bred horses, at the highest professional level. This internship is for a minimum of 6 months and can extend to 2 years based on the needs and desires of the candidate.

Responsibilities of the Protege:

1. Assisting with daily operations including

turn out, blanketing, and care of livestock,

2. Assisting with grooming and saddling;

3. Assisting with sales prep;

4. Assisting with breaking and starting colts;

5. Mastering the professional philosophies and

applications of Western horsemanship;

6. Mastering the techniques and skills required to

"finish" a horse;

7. Mastering the art of finesse;

8. Mastering the skills and techniques used to

develop and refine the stop, handle, and control

of a horse;

9. Advancement of skills via riding, observation,

interaction, and daily lessons with Joe Heim;

Qualifications of Protege’:

The ideal candidate will be 21 years of age or

older, in good physical condition, and have the

following:

1. Verifiable recent experience working with and

around horses, preferably performance horses,

2. Familiarity and basic understanding of

Western Horsemanship;

3. Verificable intermediate-advanced riding

skills;

4. A professional appearance and demeanor

accompanied by good manners, a humble

attitude, willingness to learn, and respect

for others, including all animals;

5. Maturity accompanied by common sense, self

motivation, and attention to detail;

6. The desire to improve and advance current

riding skills to a higher level;

7. A work ethic that enables productivity and

ensures personal accomplishment.

8. Self confidence underscored by a lack of ego

and self entitlement;complemented by an

openness to learning new ideas and

information;

9. Awareness of the difference between "having a

good seat" on a horse and the capability to

ride ANY horse.
