WE’VE HAD TROUBLE WITH OUR NEW EMAIL ADDRESS*** Dakota Performance Horses is owned and operated by trainer Levi Grimes, his family Elissa, Jackson, Jordan, Dalton, Dillon, and assistant trainer Lisa Kittel. We are located 90 miles east of Rapid City, south of Kadoka, SD on the edge of the Badlands. We are a family and horsemanship oriented reined cowhorse, rope horse and ranch horse training facility. We’re located in the heart of ranch country, and we frequently help Levi’s dad with his ranch work as well as neighbor with many of the surrounding ranchers. We ranch on all of our show horses and colts. Levi was a 2012 Open Finalist and Intermediate Open Reserve World Champion in the Senior Heading at the AQHA World Show and Intermediate Open Reserve Champion in the Tie-Down Roping this year. He has won multiple Championships and Reserve Championships at NRCHA limited aged events and has $50k+ LTE in the NRCHA. We are accepting applications for our internship program. We are looking for someone interested in a career in horses seeking an opportunity to help them become more employable. This position will involve average barn chores, such as feeding and stall cleaning, grooming, saddling, and warming up some horses. In addition to the choreing, the internship will be great exposure to colt starting, progressing young horses, cattle work, cowboying, and finishing show horses for both roping and reined cowhorse. There may be opportunities to travel to national and local horse shows. The amount of riding will depend on the intern’s experience level, however, we consider an intern to be a student -- not just barn help-- and will help further his or her knowledge accordingly. This area is a one of a kind rural community of ranchers and horsemen and working here will be a great experience for someone looking to keep learning about horse and facility management, horsemanship, show horses, and ranching. We offer shared housing with our other intern, meals, transportation to and from work, and a small monthly stipend. Length of internship is flexible though we ask for a minimum of 3 months.
