I am 30 years old and have recently returned from working in New Zealand on cattle farms. I am currently in Oregon and prefer to find permanent work in the northwest, but am willing to relocate for a seasonal position. My perfect job would be a ranching operation that is free range (not interested in feed lot situations) and uses horses for some if not all cattle work. Me: I am an extremely competent and hard worker. I’m honest if I don’t know or understand something and learn very quickly. I am a self-starter, able to work alone or with a team and I enjoy a challenge. I am not afraid to work in inclement weather (we had 12 feet of annual rain in New Zealand and freezing winter conditions). That said, I prefer not to work somewhere that is dry and windy all the time. In addition to working with horses and livestock, I have worked as a business manager for several companies and am good with people, account management, team leading and other office related tasks that could be useful to a ranching operation. Experience: I grew up on a horse breeding farm and have ridden since a very young age. I played polo, worked with young horses and cattle operations to assist with musters, branding and halter training cattle selected for show. I competed showing various types of livestock and am very competent at bringing up gentle stock both in a commercial and show settings. My horsemanship skills are very much centred around the styles taught by Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. I have experience calving and assisting in difficult births and was one of 4 charged with calving 300 heifers and 700 cows this last calving season. I was primarily responsible for rearing 314 replacement calves. In addition to stock work, I have worked with large machinery, installed and maintained fencing, managed rotational grazing, herd record keeping and have basic mechanical and carpentry skills. I have hauled tens of thousand of miles in both gooseneck and bumper pulls. I have a more thorough summary of my skills available on request, and can provide references.
