I am 43 years old and am in good health. I am married and have 1 son. I am a family man. I love being a husband and father as much as I love being a rancher. Looking for a ranch job near Texas or in Texas. I am wanting to move back towards Texas. Work History: I moved to Montana in July 2020. Since moving to Montana, I have been working on a 580-acre ranch as lead ranch hand. As a ranch hand on this ranch, I am responsible for feeding and caring for 100 head of cattle and 2 bulls. During calving season, I would assist bred heifers with birthing and I would vaccinate, brand, and tag the new born calves and band the bull calves. I was also responsible for seeding, irrigation, raking, cutting, and bailing hay fields, mending fences, providing maintenance, repair, and upkeep on all farm equipment, and daily care of the ranch. I am proficient on all farm equipment. May 2019- July 2020: Farm/Ranch hand, Lead mechanic of Terry Bison Ranch- my title was mechanic but like on any ranch I wore many hats. I operated tractors, skid steers, pulling manure spreaders, back hoe, raking, cutting, and bailing hay, round bails and square bails I have used Kuhn trailed disc mowers. I have used sickle bar mowers. I have operated just about any farm equipment there is. The ranch was 2, 500 acres. I was responsible for ordering materials and parts if needed for all equipment, LIVE STOCK- moved and rounded up cattle and bison. Tagged, vaccinated, and assisted with birthing calves. Used cattle head gate and calves squeeze chute. Rounded up stray cattle using utv/atv and horses. Herded cattle nearly 5 miles. I provided daily care and feeding for all cattle and livestock. Worked with all kinds of animals including cattle, camels (not very fond of camels), goats, horses, bison, ostrich, peacocks, and various other animals and livestock. I have performed elastration and castration and have no problem with either one. Provided lawn care and overall maintenance of the ranch. Built 2 long barns one for stud horses. Built and repaired fencing. I installed and repaired electric fencing. Welding and fabrication were a part of my daily duties. I am knowledgeable at using plasma cutters, mig and tig welding machines, wire feed welding machines, and oxygen and acetylene torch. I would not say I am the best welder there is but I can defiantly get the job done well and in a timely manner in the field and in the shop. Rebuilt hydraulic pumps and cylinders on the farm equipment. I am a very quick thinker and when a stressful situation occurs is sometimes when I am the most on top of my game. We had a heifer go down in the chute during my 4th week on the job and everyone else was standing around trying to figure out how to help her and it seemed as though nobody knew what to do and I took control of the situation and solved the problem and made it so that we got the heifer out safely without anyone getting harmed in the process. May 2015-May 2019: Owner and operator of Mike’s mobile mechanic service. Working on all types of vehicles, boats, atv’s, utv’s, snow mobiles, diesel motors, and jet ski’s (anything with a motor). February 1990-May 2015: Grew up on 2,000-acre ranch that was owned and operated by my father and I. We raised and breed cattle and quail. We were a 24/7 working ranch. I branded cattle and have nursed calves and unfortunately have had to put down animals (not something I wanted to have to do but that is ranch life). In closing I am looking for a permanent ranch position. I understand the ways of ranch life and prefer it. I have stayed up many nights waiting for calves and other animals to be born with heat lamps and wood chips ready. Not every bit of ranch life is alluring but ranch life is how I was born and raised. Our ranch was 8 miles from the nearest paved road and another 15 miles to town so if something broke down or there were issues with any of the livestock you could not just run to the store to fix the problem. That is where I learned most of the skills that I have carried with me throughout my life and my love for ranch life. I understand that this ranch has been a working ranch for quite some time now and every rancher has their own way of doing thing and functioning I have no problem with that. The way the ranch is ran has been working for many years and I have no intention of coming in and trying to change something that is obviously working. Everybody has different ideas if there is something that I can help improve by voicing my opinion I will do so but it will not change my feelings towards the ranch if my opinion or idea is not accepted. My theory is if it aint broke don’t fix it. Also, not going to town all the time is not a problem for me I prefer to go only once or twice a month or less if I can manage it.
