Description:
Our farm is located in East Central Nevada located outside of Lund nearly 35 miles south of Ely, Nv on highway 318. The farm has been a family owned operation for nearly 100 years. Over time we have expanded the size of our operation and are looking for dedicated and skilled labor to continue its production and family traditions. As of now we are farming nearly 1700 acres of Alfalfa hay, grass hay mixtures and annuals including oats and triticale. We primarily irrigate by means of underground water pumping as well with water rights on several springs. We irrigate by flood irrigation through pipelines, wheel lines, and pivot irrigation systems. Because of the climate we technically have a three crop growing season from April 1st to September 30th in the which we are busy with hay operations. Winters are spent shipping and loading hay trucks, maintaining equipment, roads and facilities. Over the next few years there are plans in place to turn flood irrigated fields into more efficient center pivot irrigation. The operation is currently being managed by an onsite owner/operator and you will be able to work with him in planning, and carrying out daily and weekly operations.



General Responsibilities:



You will be primarily responsible for the management of the summer hay operations. This will include knowing how to effectively and efficiently operate or instruct other on swathers, raking, hay hauling and baling with attached accumulators and Staheli hay steamers. You will need to be able to have knowledge and understanding of the equipment you are using and be expected to manage the other labor and personnel that will be assisting you. You will need to communicate directly with the owner/operator as needed and give adequate reports of activity. The ability to communicate well, give directions and work with others will be important to the success of the position. When not harvesting hay you will be able to have the time for equipment maintenance as well as participating in tillage and planting.



Hands on Skills:

Effective and Efficient equipment operation: Equipment used - New Holland and Massey Tractors, 3x4 Balers and Swathers, Different Hay Rakes, Milstak Hay Stacker, Staheli West Hay Steamers, Case Loader, Case Backhoe, Semi Truck with Belly Dump, and Pivot Track Fillers. Proficient in the use of tillage equipment.



Understanding of how to use a drill seeder and no till drilling.



Understand the use of chemicals in implement sprayers and their effect on plants, Be able to instruct others on spot spraying and weed management.



Be able to do general maintenance on equipment including, greasing, oil changes and other specific upkeep on specific hay equipment to be ready for upcoming crops and seasons.



Ability to stick weld.



Understanding of flood irrigation, vertical turbine pumps, center pivot irrigation (Valley and T-L) and wheel lines.



Basic understanding of AC and DC power for tractor and implement repairs as well as AC pumps and motor repairs.

Other Expectations:



You will be expected to work a normal farming schedule. Summertime hours of 40 to 60 hrs a week during the busiest hay operations to 30 to 40 hrs during winter. Vacations and time off will be given as it is needed and previously scheduled. Some minimal Sunday chores will be necessary only as needed.



In most cases you will be able to have a lunch break at home but should be willing, during busy times to carry a lunch to work.



You will need to be able to learn new things such as laser leveling flood ground, experimental crops and using new hay equipment.



Compensation:



$20 - $25/hr - Starting wage will be determined by experience.

Housing Provided - 1800 sq/ft duplex
