If you’re like me, as I scroll through different sale ads, you will frequently find listings advertised as a “once in a lifetime” horse. But what does that even mean?

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙡𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙖 𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙖 “𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚” 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙?

To me, it’s the horse that is irreplacable.

It’s the horse that you can depend on day in and day out.

It’s honesty, personality, and heart.

It’s the horse that isn’t just a horse.

And it’s something you will not find find for sale, because he is too busy making his owner’s dreams come true.

Well, I present to you: 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗸𝗮 “𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮”- 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴

It’s hard to begin to describe the qualities and history of this gelding, because there are so many amazing things to say about him. But if you haven’t already, I would definitely recommend that you watch all of the footage we provided to give you the best idea of the quality Walla represents. As part of the 940 All Star program, Shine Like Sugar’s sale video covers an in depth testimony from his previous owner, as well as industry leading professionals like Jim McCutcheon and Dakota Kirchenschlager. This gelding is sound, sane, and in and out of the arena- is as finished as they come.

Shine Like Sugar is a 2011 model 14.3h AQHA gelding by the $4 Million Dollar Sire, Walla Walla Whiz, and out of $143,000+ producing mare, Stylish Sugar.

Walla has been shown in the reining, working cow, ranch riding, ranch trail, ranch pleasure, and you can steer stop and head off of him as well.

In the last year, he has won the NRHA Rookie Level 1 & 2 at the Warm Up Series in Waco, Tx, and was also shown at the Stock Horse of Texas World Show in Abeline, TX.

With just under $1k in NRHA earnings, Walla is truly beginner safe, and is effortless to go show. There aren’t very many beginner friendly show horses that remain honest in the pen, and not to mention, one that you can maintain from home- but here he is! Walla is willfully guided at the walk, trot, extended trot, lope, extended lope, and will always come back to you not matter how hard you push him. With little to no effort, this gelding is a consistent 70-72 horse in the show pen. He spins great, is an easy/honest changer, and travels around very low and stylish. And you best believe, when you say whoa, Walla will slide to a stop! He is very comfortable to ride, and will trot very smooth and slow, but also has an incredibly fancy extended trot too! Walla is trained over ground poles at the walk, trot and lope, he can side pass, and work a gate with ease. He will also drag logs, and is started in the cow work as well. This is one of the fanciest ranch riding horses out there, and he absolutely loves it! Everywhere he goes, people always compliment his demeanor, build, and style. He is built like a muscled up tank, with great bone and feet. He also has a gorgeous face, with amber eyes! Walla is not your average sorrel to say the least!

Walla began his career as a reiner, and from the time he was 3 years old, he was shown and maintained by a non pro. This is incredibly significant, and an excellent testimony to his character- as it didn’t take much work to make this gelding spectacular, he was truly born a "good boy". He packed Kelly Donnelly through many levels of the reining pen, and you can hear her experience over the years with Walla here:

As part of the 940 All Star program, we wanted to ensure that we also presented a few unbiased opinions of Walla, so we hauled him to a few trainers in the North Texas area for them to catch ride. NRHA Professional Horseman, Jim McCutcheon of Jim McCutcheon Quarter Horses, took Walla through the paces of his reining manuevers, and you can hear about his experience here:

Additionally, we hauled Walla over to DK Performance Horses for Dakota Kirchenschlager to rope on. Dakota mentioned that Walla, “was very quiet in the box, and did everything I asked of him. The gelding stopped great, and was really easy to handle.” You can watch the 2022 ARHFA Redbud Spectacular Championship Header rope on Walla here:

What is really unique about this gelding, is that he truly bonds to his person. This horse will give you his whole heart, and tries so hard to please you. He is in tune to your emotions, and acts more like a person than a horse. I really feel that Walla would prefer to come live in the house with you, rather than out in the barn! And I can’t count the times that I have pulled up to the barn so stressed from my work day or upset from various things, and have left in a completely different mood because of this horse. He is a consistent, dependable creature, that reminds me of a valiant steed out of a fairytale. He nickers at you every time he sees you, and adores being loved and scratched. He is a friend, and has been a very important piece of my life for the year that I have owned him.

Though he has extensive show experience in a variety of disciplines, he is not your average show horse. Not only is Walla 100% sound with clean x-rays, and zero maintenance; but he is also a superstar outside! This is the type of gelding that is the exact same horse day in and day out, no matter where you are, or what you doing- Walla truly enjoys participating! You can leave him off for a long time, hop on him and go check fences in the pasture, push cattle, rope something off of him, or even hop on him bareback and bridleless!! Walla is proven traffic, trail, and dog safe- and is seldom ever spooky or reactive. I have ridden him out on 100 acre pastures with a herd of horses on it, and have had them all run up to us, and he was completely unphased. I have also used him to pony younger horses, and he never pens his ears, or gets upset. Walla has always been the textbook “steady eddy”.

In summary, in all my years of riding and working in the horse industry, I have never found a gelding that is the total package like Walla.

He is sound mentally and physically, with a resume that is unmatched. Not only is he beautiful, royally bred, and phenomenally trained, he has a personailty like no other- and is truly that “once in a lifetime” gelding.

Why is he for sale?

I have had to make the difficult decision to sell my two personal horses to be able to buy a home. So through this process, it has been my goal to appropriately showcase how spectacular Walla is, and how much he has meant to me.
