Historic ranch in southeastern Pecos County, Texas:

F.O. Perry was a telegrapher in San Angelo during the days of Fort Concho, before the building of the Santa Fe Railroad. F.O. turned to ranching when land could be purchased on a long-term loan and he found an opportunity to sell cavalry horses to the U.S. Army.

The precise year that Mr. Perry came to the land roughly twenty miles west of Sheffield, is unknown. We do know that Frank A. Perry (one of F.O.’s five sons) married Juanita Blanks in 1910, and they moved directly to his father’s ranch and set up housekeeping.

We also know that Frank’s daughter, Ann Nita was born about halfway between Perry Ranch and Sheffield. There was a doctor in Sheffield at that time, but Juanita could not make it that far before delivering her child at a neighbor’s house.

A family member has always lived at headquarters and operated the ranch since those early days in the Old West.

Perry Ranch is of historical note for several other reasons.

The Old Spanish Trail runs through the northern portion of the ranch. It brought travelers from San Antonio and back east to a watering hole along the stage line for many years. The stage also attracted bandits who were Mrs. Perry’s unexpected guests for breakfast at times.

A recently discovered cave, high up on a cliff, hidden by vegetation exhibits handprints on the ceiling that have been examined by historians from Sul Ross University. The handprints date back to roughly 1500 B.C. The study also found that the Comanches inhabited the cave more recently.

Current owners of the ranch are the descendants of the men and women who put the place together and have kept it in operation for more than one hundred years.

Operating cattle ranch well-suited for hunting:

Twenty-two Sections of prime ranch land. Two sections lay north of I-10; and twenty sections are located south of I-10.

Perry Ranch is loaded with Mule Deer, White Tailed Deer, Elk, Javelina, Quail, Mountain lion, Bobcat, Coyote, etc., making it a hunter’s paradise.

Perry Ranch contains three sets of pens (one at the headquarters and two in the southern pastures) and well-constructed external fences and cross fences for its approximately 200 mother cow operation.

Perry Ranch has a vast range of topography and terrain of Cretaceous rock outcrops creating beautiful scenic views.

Perry Ranch has a stable Edward-Trinity aquifer under its geography and seven water producing water wells.

Perry Ranch has a nice headquarters with two homes (one recently renovated) and a very pleasant guest house.

A portion of the mineral rights may also be transferable to the buyer.
