We’ve used Patriot in all weather to gather cow/calf pairs, move bulls, check fence and sort alleys. He’ll work all day without complaining but isn’t hot or jiggy, and rides off alone without a fuss. He’s climbed, crossed and handled all sorts of terrain and is surefooted wherever you need to take him. Good on a gate and uses himself well. We haven’t roped on him but he’ll dally off and drag a log and a barrel. He’s been ridden bridleless in the arena, comes soft on the bit and rides off your seat and leg. He has a lot of athletic ability but carries himself quiet and level-headed with quiet lope departures into both leads, stops off your seat, sidepasses, is easy to rate down or will pick up when asked and is typically ridden one-handed. He has a genuinely smooth trot and lope, has loped the flags, and been through a whole bunch of indoor obstacles. This horse is not for beginners but has been pretty darn solid and enjoyable for an experienced rider. He isn’t crooked or broncy but can be watchy or quirky, particularly on the ground. Once he’s trained to something he’s solid on it, but it’s in his nature to have a little snort and shy for oddball things like someone walking up to toss a rein over his neck. He’s kinda like a one-man-dog: not going to fit everybody but can be one of the coolest horses you’ve ever owned! Patriot is straight-legged with good bone and foot. Sound all-around, no major scars or blemishes, no maintenance (we keep him shod with the rest of our herd). Probably not going to catch him on pasture, but he’s good to be around including to tie, shoe, bathe, groom, saddle, bridle, load & back off the trailer, etc. Up to date on vaccines.
