He has had to work for a living every day of his life and is the type of horse that doesn’t come up for sale very often. Steel is a 7 year old grey gelding, 15.2hh and very well built, weighing close to 1250 pounds with a big hip, wide chest, plenty of bone and four black feet. He sells as GRADE. He is an exceptional gelding with a ton of talent and athletic ability, and he rides exactly the way a ranch horse should ride. Steel has been on one ranch for most of his life, ridden by the foreman, until the ranch sold and all of the horses were sold as well. He has been used in the feedyard and on the ranch for all phases of ranch work, including sorting pairs, roping and doctoring cattle in the pasture, colts, and checking fence. Steel has roped bulls and drug them into the trailer, and tied down more calves than most ranch horses could ever dream of. He is cowy and strong to the horn, and has no quit in him. He has been taught to travel out in the pasture and isn’t afraid to put in a solid day’s work. Steel is an excellent ranch horse but is the perfect age to take in any direction you choose. Whether you want to make a performance horse or a trail horse out of him, he has the mind and athletic ability to do it. He has an excellent handle and stop, a smooth trot and rocking horse lope that you could sit to all day long, and he will ground tie and work a gate. Steel is good on both leads, is quick footed and catty, and will sidepass and move off your leg. He is gentle and has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off, but is best suited to a more experienced rider due to how athletic he is. Steel is very responsive and has plenty of gas if you need it, but if not he will walk quietly out in the pasture on a loose rein. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. He will go up, under or through anything you point him at. Steel can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. He has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. Steel is gentle but due to how athletic and catty he is, he is better suited to a more experienced rider, not children or beginners. Asking $9,500.
