Description:
Howdy! My name is Baker Knight, and I am a 27 year old cowhand, currently located in north central Wyoming.

Iím in the process of finding a new place to work/live with my girlfriend and our pets (3 dogs and 1 cat, and the dogs do work cattle). I grew up in Texas, working in the cattle business since I was a kid. Iíve worked on preconditioning outfits, cow/calf outfits, and stocker outfits. Iíve been involved in a lot of different facets of the cattle business, from the initial processing(castration, vaccinations, branding), doctoring( roping in the pasture, dart guns, and pushing sick cattle to the working chute), and have even worked in the sale barn a time or two. Iíve moved cattle horseback, on atvís, and with other vehicles. The place Iím currently on is majority BLM and forest service land in the Big Horn mountains, where horses and 4 wheelers are the most efficient way to fix fence and move cattle. I also stayed in the ranchís mountain cow camp cabin for 2-3 months at a time in the summer, when we had the cattle up high. The majority of what I did is fixing fence, since there has only been 2 of us on the cow crew for the majority of my time here. I also moved cattle, horseback and with atvís, processed cattle, sorted and doctored, shipped, hauled cattle and hay, and helped with the irrigation crew on a few occasions.

I have a 4 year degree from Texas A&M in Soil & Crop Sciences, emphasis on the soil science. I chose that degree because, in my opinion, there arenít enough people focusing on the soil aspect of raising cattle, which could lead to other issues. To me, learning what it takes to have good soil, which leads to having good grass, which leads to having good cattle. Iíve worked under several different management styles, as varied as the states Iíve worked in. I also served in the Army Reserves, which has given me the opportunities to enhance different skills, such as teamwork, team leading, and achieving goals by a set deadline. I pride myself on my ability to work hard in all weathers and to learn new skills and new ways of doing things. As much as I love getting horseback and doing Ďcowboyí things, Iím not too proud to brush off any job/work that isnít Ďcowboyí enough for some folks. I ride for the brand, and I do the job Iím paid to do.

My girlfriend, who will be my fiancťe within 6 months, is also willing to learn the trade and work on the ranch as well. She doesnít have much experience around cows or fence, but with her 3 degrees (2 bachelors and one associates), sheís willing to learn and work and do what needs to be done.
