I am selling my horse, Cisco, who just turned 12. He is 15.3 hands and a bay/dun (although registered as a buckskin). I bought him 4 and a half years ago, he was green broke and had a few months of training after spending the first 7 years of his life in a pasture with dogs and kids, and exposed to a bit of ground training. I spent several weeks hand walking the trails to get him accustomed to things, did some ground work, and then started trail riding. He is great with water, bicycles, cars, strollers, crossing bridges, going through brush, over logs, barking dogs, and loves kids. He was not used to hills, and single track trails, and had to learn how to use his hind end and navigate tricky spots. He is a people lover, and will leave his food to be with his person. I have played with cows on him, did a trail trial competition, and have hauled him to various trails and to Point Reyes for trail riding and beach riding. He can be nervous getting in the trailer, but is quiet coming out. He gets along well with mares and geldings. He loves being groomed, is great with his feet, getting baths, fly spray, blankets and being haltered and bridled. He has nice feet, and does fine barefoot, but I started having him shod because we have a lot of rocky trails. He has been mostly ridden western with a snaffle. He has so many great qualities, but from the beginning he has sporadically bucked. He has bucked with me in the saddle eight times over 4 years, and while I rode out four episodes, I also came off four times, last year twice. Once coming down a steep hill on a cold morning in January (2019) while I was trying out a new saddle that slipped (I did not tighten the girth, I know better), and once in his first team penning night during our third round, while really getting after a cow. The last episode, end of September 2019, really injured my back and thus have reluctantly decided to hang up my spurs. I put him with a trainer in Santa Rosa in January for a couple of months, to work on transitions, collection and ground driving. I have been doing ground work with him since then, but have not ridden him. I am not a trainer, and I feel he really needs to go to: A) a trainer who can work with him, B) a cowboy who has experience with riding a bucking horse, albeit infrequently, C) to someone looking for a pasture pal in a horse that loves people and is very easy to handle on the ground. While being ridden, Cisco is strong and fast, and not for an inexperienced person. He is UTD on shots, worming and shoes. He has never had colic. He is on orchard grass, with some Stable Mix for a treat. Currently is in a stall with access to a large paddock, gets turned out/worked 3 days a week. I am asking $3,000 for him. Thank you.
