Description:
Drop-dead gorgeous, 8-year-old, 39-inch (9.3 hands), jet black, gleaming pony mare, with the silkiest mane and tail you’ll ever see. Not registered. Age is approximate (vet estimates age between 6-9). Located in Berthoud, Colorado.

Luna is the quietest, most polite horse I have ever met. She stands calmly and patiently while kids literally run around, over, and under her. They climb her like a jungle gym and dress her in clothes. She has never bitten, kicked, or struck, even when I thought she should (like the time a dog broke into the corral and cattle-dogged her, nipping her back legs to the point of drawing blood; even then, she didn’t kick the dog, which is what he needed). She follows me around in the corral when I am cleaning up or caring for other animals, but never invades my personal space. We don’t give treats much, so she isn’t nippy or pushy. She has been exposed to tarps, balls, dogs, loud noises, flags, goats, and large herds of loud children, none of which seems to bother her in the least. She politely lifts each hoof for a little kid to clean, even without a halter on. She gets along fine in a herd and is never dominant. She is an easy keeper without ever having gotten fat. She has strong black hooves (teeny tiny hooves) and we have kept her barefoot. She stands nicely for the farrier and vet, and loads, hauls, bathes, and clips sweetly. She has no known health or soundness issues. She has been the best buddy to my four-year-old daughter, who drags her around the ranch on a lead rope for hours at a time. I’ve seen my daughter pull her up and down dirt mounds, make her climb a slope and jump off a retaining wall, go through mud and water, into the garage (I stopped them trying to come into the house), and never has she protested or tried to break away. She doesn’t try to graze or get strong-headed with little ones as has every other pony I’ve every known. She treats even the tiniest handlers with courtesy and respect. She lunges for adults and children, and round-pens beautifully, going through her gaits on voice command and picking up her correct leads. She has a surprisingly fast extended trot that would make her a beautiful cart horse.

On a leadline, she is patient and quiet, even when forced to wear ridiculous costumes or carry children wearing ridiculous costumes. She ponies squirmy, screeching, flopping kids without complaint, even when being led by one of those squirmy, screeching kids. Under saddle without being led, she remains a little green. She certainly knows the basics, like go and whoa and how to direct rein and back up, but she lacks refinement; I don’t think she knows how to neck-rein or collect. There’s not a mean bone in her body, and she won’t try to dump a kid, but she can be quick-footed and scoot along briskly when she is unsure what her rider is asking, which can be scary for a little kid who is not confident or skilled as a rider. Here are a couple of other things that aren’t perfect about Luna. When turned out for more than a few weeks, she can be a pill to catch in a large pasture. Without a halter in my hand, she’d follow me to the ends of the earth, but when I approach her with a halter after a few weeks off, she declines. When handled regularly, she is perfectly easy to walk up and throw a halter on. For some reason, she is always easy for my daughter to catch, no matter what. Another thing to disclose is that Luna has an old injury to her left eye. She is obviously able to see with that eye, and I can’t detect any indication in her behavior at all that her vision is in any way impaired, but the vet says he can see corneal damage that may affect her vision to some degree, even if she doesn’t show it. There is also old, healed cosmetic damage to that eyelid that is minor, as you can see in the picture. Again, this doesn’t bother her at all, and her ability to see in both eyes seems completely normal. Further veterinary exams, if desired, are welcome at the buyer’s expense.

Luna is UTD on Coggins, dewormer and vaccines, including rabies, as of 5/1/20. She had her teeth floated 4/15/20 and is having her hooves trimmed this coming week. Luna will be coming with her custom-made hot-pink winter blanket, as well as her sparkly pink show halter and hot-pink nylon bridle with the tiny snaffle bit. I am happy to arrange shipping nationwide. Luna is offered for sale exclusively on TheHorseBay.com, an online equine auction site. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly for any additional information or to arrange a showing, or go to TheHorseBay.com to bid. Thank you for considering lovely Luna!
