Marketed for Juston McBride, this gelding was bred by Gene Lyda’s La Escalera Ranch in Ft. Stockton. La Escalera Ranch is one of the largest cattle ranches in Texas, consisting of more than 260,000 deeded acres in four counties (Pecos, Brewster, Archer and Baylor). According to a 2017 survey by The Land Report, the Lyda family is ranked No. 47 among the Top 100 Landowners in the United States. Royal Laredo Roan was bred by the Wichita Ranch and is a son of Laredo Roan. Laredo Roan is a full brother to Mecom Blue who earned himself over $6000 in NCHA earnings. Besides all the names most know about on Royal Laredo Roan’s pedigree, Haidas Little Pep, Doc Bar, Nu Bar, Peppy San Badger, Poco Tivio, Doc Olena, Poco Bueno, Hollywood Gold, there is also a horse named Royal King who is a son of King in his pedigree both top and bottom. Just a fun fact, Royal King was bred by Felton Smathers of Llano TX, where we as a business currently reside. So just a very neat fact how this horse ties into our program! Royal Laredo Roan has been producing quality ranch horses for the La Escalera for several years. His dam is also Royal King bred with other very old foundation breeding in her pedigree. She has been a consistent producer and was ridden by consignor’s dad, Heston McBride, several years ago. She is a very nice ranch bred horse that produces good quality ranch offspring. This gelding has a very mellow personality. He is a bit on the lazy side, but not a dud either. He has not been started under saddle yet. He stands tied and will lung a bit too. He has BIG solid black feet, ample bone and a kind eye. Currently 14.2 hands and would expect he should get to 15 hands give or take. He stands tied. He hasn’t been messed with a lot, so doesn’t know a lot, but when asked to do a job he is willing and smart. Just sometimes must be asked a bit more than some. Owner fully expects this gelding to be a nice ranch horse for someone. Feet have been handled minimally, but no farrier work yet.
