Description:
A very rare highly collectible spade bit built by (Alonzo) A.W. Dewing. He was born in California in 1855 and died in 1933 in Santa Barbara. The spoon on the spade is stamped "A.W. Dewing 1915". His name is also marked on the side of the cricket. The initials "WR" are stamped on each side of the cheeks just under the rein rings. Out of the estate of California horseman and cattle rancher Richie Morgan. Beautiful piece of Western Americana. Dewing is featured in Ned and Jody Martin’s "Bit and Spur Makers in the Vaquero Tradition."
