He was the co-winner of the first Adolph Bayers award, along with Billy Klapper. He was awarded the Chester A. Reynolds award by the National Western Heritage anc Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City. He mentored several of the next generation makers, was a working cowboy, a great spur and bit maker. This pair is marked CATES 4181, have copper mane on both sides of the horse head shanks, double mounted 1 1/8" bands, unworn, come with good spotted leathers, 3 1/4" heel openings, 1 1/2" rowels.
