He is the real deal, broke the way a ranch horse should be broke, and gentle enough for anyone, and he stays that way even if not ridden regularly. Royce is a 15 year old sorrel gelding, GRADE, 15.1hh and flashy and well built with a big hip, wide chest, a ton of bone, and a pretty head with a kind eye. He is the type of horse you can just pull out of the pasture, hop on and go without worrying about warming him up or getting bucked off. He rides just as good with a rope around his neck or a halter as he does with a bridle. Royce has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off, and is about as quiet and well mannered as they come. He spent the majority of his life on a ranch out in West Texas, where he was used for all phases of ranch work, including sorting pairs, roping and doctoring cattle in the pasture, and checking fence. We have ponied colts off of him and they can literally climb all over him and it won’t bother him. Royce is stout and tough, strong to the horn and good on the end of a rope, never getting excited or upset when working cattle. He has also carried the flag in grand entries and the noise, lights and chaos don’t bother him one bit. But Royce also enjoys just a leisurely ride down the trails and would be perfectly content as someone’s trail horse and best friend. He is laid back and quiet, yet responsive, and will adjust himself to the level of his rider. He is naturally low headed and rides out on a loose rein. Royce is very nicely broke, with a good one handed neck rein and a great stop. He has a smooth jog and rocking horse lope, is good on both leads, will sidepass and work a gate. He is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. Royce can be ridden out by himself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. He has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. This type of horse doesn’t come for sale often, so if you are looking for a well broke, safe, dependable ranch gelding that the entire family can safely enjoy, don’t miss out on Royce.
