She is a beautiful 12 year old buckskin mare, 15 hh with three little white socks, tiger striping and a pretty head with a kind eye. Hickory is gentle, kind and sweet natured, very willing and not mare-ish. She is GRADE. She has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off, and gentle enough that advanced beginner adults and kids can ride her. Hickory has been ridden on trails, has pushed cattle, been ridden English and has given lessons over small jumps. You can swing a rope and drag a log and she isn’t bothered by it. Hickory has amazing smooth gaits and a really good handle, will neck rein or direct rein, and a short little lope that just about anyone can sit to. She will sidepass, work off your leg, and stops and backs easily. Hickory will go up, over or through anything you point her at, no matter what the terrain. She rides just as quiet in an unfamiliar place as she does at home. She is a pleasure to ride out in the pasture, crosses water with no problem, and isn’t spooky. She can be ridden out by herself or with other horses, and doesn’t mind being separated from the group. She has also been ridden alongside the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. Hickory has been around dogs, strollers, tractors, bicycles and donkeys and isn’t bothered by any of it. She is as honest and dependable as they come. She is quiet and rides on a loose rein, but does have some speed if you ask her for it so she would make a nice little playday horse as well.
