Description:
Original hand made spade bit by Lane Dilworth. 5 1/4" mouth. Hand made chains also by Lane.



Says Lane: "The copper beads are made from 1"long x 5/16"wide x 1/8" thick copper. I anneal, then wrap them around a 3/16" steel mandrel with a hammer and vice. I finish the beads by wedging them on the end of another mandrel and then spin them on the sander and buffs. The brace is made from 5/32" steel rod so the beads will have some play. I pre-load them on the brace so I only have to clamp-on the last two or three beads to finish the brace. It is labor intensive (not much that we do that isn’t) but I haven’t been able to find a source of heavy copper beads that suit me.

The inlays are flowed in. I can’t say much about that because the process I use is not my own, but it involves bringing the steel up to the melting temp of the silver and melting the silver into the cells. I flow the copper into my mouthpieces just like the silver. "
