Salary: DOE Room & Board: Camp Housing Phone #: Email only click to view fullsize image Description: Hiring a camp cowboy/ranch hand for spring work, approximately mid-March through June 20, 2019, with the possibility of turning into longer employment. We’re a cow-calf operation running primarily on BLM land in Southern and Central Utah. Duties include but are not limited to the following: • Calving heifers out in the open. We don’t have calving pens, sheds, etc. Cowboys ride through the heifers all day and check for problems, assist if absolutely necessary, tag new calves, etc. • Horsemanship is a must. There’s a lot of riding. Cowboys can bring up to 5 horses (no mares), but they all must be rideable. Horses will be provided if necessary. • Gather and pair cattle to ship via semi-truck to summer range. • Branding of calves, which includes castration and vaccination. We use a calf table. • Haul water to cattle as may be necessary. • Repair and maintain fence and water lines. The ideal candidate will recognize that on a ranch there are many different duties and while you may be on a horse one day, you might be acting as a mechanic the next. To work with us, you must be flexible and willing to accept the changes that come throughout the day. Additionally, the ideal candidate will both be self-motivated, but also able to work with a crew. Housing is provided at camp. If employment extends beyond June, you’ll be responsible for your securing your own housing. Camp housing is for SINGLE MEN only. We don’t hire couples, and spouses/families are not permitted to reside at camp with employees. Meat is also provided while you’re at camp. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and pass a background check. Must provide 3 work references. If hired, candidates must provide their own riding tack including saddle, basic camp cooking supplies, bedroll, shovel, axe and fencing pliers. We work very long hours in the spring, but pay is competitive and based on experience.
